Job Description

OVERVIEW

JOB SUMMARY
The PreOp RN will admit patients to the unit and prepare patients for the scheduled procedure (s), providing quality patient care using the nursing process, the medical plan of care, and organizational policies. The Pre-Op RN provides safe, effective, and quality patient-family centered care in the perioperative services for all patient populations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensures the pre-operative area has a clean and therapeutic environment for all patients at all times Ensures supplies and equipment needed are available and in good working order Admits the patient to the unit and prepares patient for the scheduled procedure Makes initial assessment and determines the nursing needs of the patient, communicates additional discharge needs when applicable (transportation, durable medical equipment) Explains nursing procedures and actions taken to help reduce anxiety Identifies patient's physical and mental status Monitors the patient's medical condition and reports any significant changes to the admitting physician or anesthesiologist.
REQUIREMENTS
Registered Nurse with an unrestricted license in the state Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing Must have at least 1-3 years' previous experience in PreOP Previous experience in Acute care hospital, an ambulatory surgical center or similar Must have current BLS, ALS and PALS Must possess a strong knowledge of surgical procedures and management of the surgical patient Understanding of aseptic techniques and their implementation Ability to quickly adapt to changing condition of the patient when needed Must be an excellent team player and have the ability to communicate with staff, patients and physicians.
EDUCATION
Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
ADN, BSN CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE
Current, Valid State of Texas RN License BLS-American Heart Association Required Current BLS, ALS and
PALS KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES
High degree of knowledge and competency in the practice of nursing and documentation requirements. Requisite skills and ability to perform assigned nursing tasks. High level of problem-solving skills to better serve patients and staff. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong application of Microsoft office and electronic health records.
