Job Description

Job Overview The Animal Hospital of Carrboro has been serving the greater Carrboro/Chapel Hill community for over 50 years. Join our dynamic veterinary team as a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT), where your expertise will play a vital role in delivering exceptional animal care and supporting our veterinary professionals. As an RVT, you will be at the forefront of clinical procedures, animal handling, and client communication, ensuring each pet receives compassionate and comprehensive treatment. Your hands-on experience in veterinary medicine will help us uphold the highest standards of animal health and well-being. Responsibilities Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and diagnostic procedures with precision and confidence. Perform animal restraint and handling to ensure safety for pets, clients, and staff during treatments and examinations. Conduct laboratory tests, prepare samples, and operate diagnostic equipment such as X-ray machines to aid in accurate diagnosis. Assist in the treatment, care and scheduling of I-131 patients. Maintain aseptic techniques during procedures to prevent infection and ensure a sterile environment. Support dental procedures by understanding dental terminology, performing cleaning, digital dental x-rays, polishing, and oral examinations (COHATs). Handle animal catheterization, venipuncture, and other technical tasks with skillful animal husbandry practices. Document all patient information accurately in medical records while communicating clearly with clients about treatment plans. Assist with pet grooming and dog training activities to promote overall pet well-being and behavior management. Maintain cleanliness of treatment areas, kennels, and equipment while adhering to safety protocols. Requirements Proven veterinary technician experience with a strong foundation in veterinary terminology, animal anatomy, physiology, and critical care practices. Kennel experience along with animal husbandry skills to manage various species including dogs, cats, and equines. Knowledge of laboratory procedures, X-ray operation, general I-131 knowledge and aseptic techniques essential for diagnostic support. Ability to handle animals safely using proper restraint techniques; experience with dog handling is highly valued. Strong understanding of veterinary critical care protocols for emergency situations involving animals. Excellent animal handling skills combined with a compassionate approach to client communication. Ability to perform animal catheterization and other technical procedures efficiently under supervision or independently as needed.
