Gen Re currently offers an excellent opportunity for a Reinsurance Claims Specialist in our Life Health Global Claims unit to work remotely based out of our Stamford, CT office.
Role Description
The Reinsurance Claims Specialist supports the adjudication of complex, high‑exposure claims as well as stable and mature claims across multiple lines of business. This role ensures accurate claim determinations through its support efforts and contributes to the integrity of the reinsurance claims and audit process. The specialist also plays a key role in identifying emerging trends, monitoring risk indicators, and strengthening reporting capabilities to support Claim Leadership's strategic decision‑making. Key Responsibilities
Complex and Mature Claims Adjudication
Support review, investigation, and adjudication of complex, high‑severity claims in accordance with policy provisions, regulatory requirements, and internal guidelines.
Manage stable and mature claims, ensuring ongoing accuracy, timely updates, and appropriate reserving.
Analyze medical records, legal documentation, and financial data to determine coverage, ongoing liability, and benefit eligibility.
Identify when intervention points or claim anomalies occur requiring escalation. Reinsurance Audit and Support
Prepare claim files, documentation, and summaries for scheduled reinsurance audits.
Collaborate with cedents and internal audit teams to ensure transparency, accuracy, and compliance with treaty terms, as required by manager.
Assist in validating reinsurance recoverables and resolving discrepancies identified during borderaux reviews, audit reconciliations, etc.
Maintain detailed records to support audit readiness and continuous improvement.
Monitor cedent portals for claim activity and ensure timely and accurate reflection with Gen Re claims systems to support reinsurance claims handling.
Trend Identification, Reporting and Proactive Monitoring
Monitor claim activity to identify emerging trends, patterns, and themes that may impact reinsurance exposure, operational risk, or financial performance and escalate as appropriate.
Develop and maintain dashboards, reports, and summaries that communicate key insights to leadership and risk management teams.
Proactively track indicators such as claim severity shifts, frequency changes, regulatory developments, and provider behavior.
Support early‑warning and monitoring frameworks to help the organization anticipate and mitigate potential risks.
Operational Excellence and Collaboration
Partner with claims leadership to identify process gaps and opportunities for workflow enhancements.
Provide subject‑matter expertise to internal teams regarding reinsurance requirements, claim handling standards, and documentation best practices.
Support reporting activities, including large‑loss notifications and reinsurance reporting obligations.
Contribute to training materials or knowledge‑sharing sessions as needed.
Role Qualifications and Experience
Experience adjudicating complex or high‑severity claims in health, life, disability, property/casualty, or related insurance lines.
Working knowledge of reinsurance structures, treaty language, and audit processes.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex documentation and identify trends.
Experience with reporting tools, data analysis, or monitoring frameworks is a plus.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present findings clearly.
High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
Ability to collaborate effectively across departments and with external partners. Deep understanding of claim adjudication and reinsurance principles.
Ability to evaluate complex data and identify meaningful trends.
Ability to produce clear, complete, audit‑ready claim files.
Ability to translates data into actionable recommendations.
Takes ownership of claim outcomes and audit readiness
Advanced proficiency in Power BI, Excel and adept with AI enabled reporting and automation tools to automate insights and optimize dashboard efficiency.
Salary Range
91,000.00 - 152,000.00 USD The annual base salary range posted represents a broad range of salaries around the US and is subject to many factors including but not limited to credentials, education, experience, geographic location, job responsibilities, performance, skills and/or training.
