Position Title:
Research and Data Sciences Librarian, Zucker School of Medicine School/Division:
School of Medicine Full Time/Part Time:
Full-Time Description:
The Research and Data Services Librarian will split their time between Zucker School of Medicine and Long Island Jewish-Forest Hills (LIJ-FH) Hospital. The librarian provides expert consultation, instruction, and support in areas including advanced literature searching, research data management, and open access publishing. The librarian will foster data literacy, promote best practices in research data management, advise on publisher and NIH data/research mandates, manage access to research-related library software, and enhance the library's efforts in open access publishing support. The librarian collaborates closely with the Zucker School of Medicine, Northwell Library Council, Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research, and Long Island Jewish-Forest Hills Hospital. This is an administrator position with the potential for non-tenure track faculty status. The librarian will be reporting to the Assistant Dean of Library Services at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. The position will require on-site visits once per week to the Long Island Jewish -Forest Hills (LIJ-FH) Hospital's library.
Key Responsibilities:
Research & Information Services Liaison & Reference Services:
Provides comprehensive reference and education liaison services for Zucker School of Medicine and Long Island Jewish-Forest Hills Hospital. Services include expert literature searches, evidence-based practice support, and instructional support.
Advanced Literature Searching:
Conducts expert medical/clinical literature searches using biomedical databases (e.g., PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, Scopus, Web of Science).
Instruction:
Designs, promotes, and delivers engaging instructional sessions, workshops, and tutorials on various topics including but not limited to literature searching, critical appraisal, conference poster creation, abstract writing, journal selection, evidence-based practice and other research related topics.
Other:
Contributes to planning activities and collaborating with colleagues on projects of shared interest in line with the library services and initiatives.
Data Services & Research Data Management Consultation:
Plan and conduct consultations and instruction on data management, data discovery, data repositories, and government or publisher data mandates. Data Management Plans (DMPs): Assists researchers in reviewing Data Management Plans (DMPs).
Data Search:
Assists researchers in locating internal and/or external datasets.
Instruction:
Develops and delivers training sessions on foundational data literacy concepts, data discovery, data management plans, and any other data related topics, as needed.
Research Software Management:
Manages access to and provides support for research-related library software (e.g. GraphPad and Biorender).
LibGuide Development:
Develops LibGuides on research or data related topics.
Scholarly Publication Support Open Access Publishing:
Provides support for open access publishing initiatives.
Instruction:
Educates researchers on scholarly publishing models, open access mandates, author rights, and copyright.
Institutional Repository:
Provides back-up support to the Scholarly Communications Librarian for the Academic Works institutional repository, ORCID implementations, and other related projects, as assigned.
Professional Development Professional Engagement:
Participates in professional development and scholarly activities, staying current with emerging trends and best practices in medical librarianship with specific focus on data and research librarianship.
Education:
Stays current on ongoing changes to NIH data and research mandates.
Qualifications:
Master's degree in library or information science from an ALA accredited school. Minimum of two (2) years of professional experience working in an academic or health science library. Preference would be given to those who have an added background in data services. Proficiency in using biomedical databases such as PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, and CINAHL. Proficiency in searching for research datasets. Demonstrated understanding of the research process and lifecycle of data used in the biomedical, health sciences, or medical education fields. Demonstrated skills in designing and presenting instruction, including the ability to create asynchronous instructional materials. Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a diverse population. Demonstrated excellence in analytical and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal skills. Evidence of initiative in learning and understanding new technology. Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with managing GraphPad and/or Biorender software. Working knowledge of ScienCV. Working knowledge of systematic reviews. AHIP (Academy of Health Information Professionals) certification or interest in pursuing.
