Job Title:
Response to Intervention (RTI) Coordinator / Academic Coach Reports to: Principal / Director of Instruction
Classification:
Full-Time, Exempt Position Summary The RTI Coordinator and Academic Coach is a dual-threat instructional leader responsible for the health of the school's academic interventions. This role focuses on ensuring that the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) is functioning effectively to catch students before they fail. You will spend your time analyzing student data, coaching teachers on differentiated instruction, and managing the logistical "gears" of Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions. Key Responsibilities
RTI/MTSS
Program Management
Universal Screening:
Lead the administration of school-wide screenings (e.g., NWEA MAP, i-Ready, DIBELS) to identify students in need of support.
Tiered Interventions:
Design and oversee the schedule for Tier 2 (small group) and Tier 3 (intensive) interventions in Reading and Math.
Progress Monitoring:
Ensure that interventionists and teachers are collecting valid data at required intervals to determine if a student is responding to the current strategy. Instructional Coaching
Teacher Support:
Conduct non-evaluative observations and "coaching cycles" to help teachers improve their Tier 1 (core) instruction.
Modeling:
Frequently model research-based instructional strategies and "push-in" to classrooms to demonstrate effective small-group differentiation.
Professional Development:
Lead staff workshops on data literacy, scaffolding techniques, and the use of intervention technology. Data Leadership & Compliance
Data Meetings:
Facilitate regular "Data War Room" meetings where grade-level teams review student work and pivot instruction based on evidence.
Special Education Liaison:
Collaborate with the Special Education department to provide documentation for students who may require evaluation after failing to respond to intensive RTI.
Resource Allocation:
Evaluate the effectiveness of current intervention software and curricula, making recommendations for future purchases. Core Competencies & Requirements Feature Requirement Education Master's Degree in Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or Reading Specialist certification. Experience 5+ years of successful classroom teaching with demonstrated gains in student achievement. Expertise Deep knowledge of the Science of Reading, pedagogical frameworks (e.g., UDL), and diagnostic assessments. Technical Advanced skill in Excel/Google Sheets for data manipulation and visualization.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
