July 2025 POSITION PURPOSE To coordinate the total nursing care for patients of the Emergency Department in a safe, cost-effective manner consistent with established standards and current hospital policies and procedures. Act as a liaison to facilitate patient care between patients, family members, providers, and other relevant persons.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Staff Nurse Currently licensed as a professional Registered Nurse in the State of Florida or Multi-State Compact Licensed. Demonstrated proficiency in all areas of patient care pertaining to patient population. BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required. Newly graduated registered nurses or new nurse to emergency department setting must obtain ACLS and PALS certification within the first 90 days of employment or assignment to the unit. Certifications are only accepted from The American Heart Association. Graduate from an accredited school of nursing with a Registered Nurse degree. High School Graduate or GED equivalent from a Florida Department of Education accredited program. Strong customer service skills and ability to multi-task while working in a high-volume work environment.. Able to work effectively with team members, supervisors, providers, patients and their families to accomplish team goals. Ability to plan, organize and perform job associated tasks to completion. Willing to adjust personal schedule to accommodate patient needs. Demonstrated knowledge of computers and proficiency in the use of an electronic health record system, CPSl/Evident preferred. Knowledge of web-based programs and Microsoft Office suite of products including Outlook, Word and Excel preferred.LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and communicate effectively in English. Ability to speak a relevant second language preferred. 3. Strong written and verbal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with customers, hospital staff, medical staff and others as required by position. Ability to identify and implement appropriate patient communication strategies and overcome accessibility barriers, as required. Ability to use language line or seek a certified interpreter for assistance.LIMITATIONS/HAZARDS
General work area chemicals as listed on the departmental chemical inventory. May be exposed to chemical toxins during medication administration and radioactive materials during imaging procedures. OSHA Category I exposure to infectious diseases and blood and body fluids. May be exposed to combative, agitated or violent patients. Occasionally subjected to extended or irregular hours Occasional pressure due to unpredictable situations, emergency or crisis situations, or due to multiple calls and inquiries.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Carefully documents all patient related information in medical record. 1.9A Coordinates effectively all patient care activity involving other departments, including admissions, transfers and discharges to promote an effective flow pattern. 1.10A Strictly follows the principles of asepsis and infection control and maintains a clean and safe environment. 1.11A Provides for patient safety through utilization of proper equipment and use of preventative measures (i.e. fall protocol/side rails, restraints, etc.) 1.12A Demonstrates an ability to respond and provide direction in changing workload and during crisis and emergent situations. 1.13A Consistently demonstrates an awareness of patient rights and functions as the patient's advocate. 1.14A Will perform waive testing as appropriate. 1.15A Demonstrates flexibility in adjusting work schedule in order to cover for increases in workload and staff shortages due to census, illness, or staffing needs to cover for vacancies and/or leave of current staff. 1B Unit Specific Competencies- Emergency Department 1.
Emergency Department:
(i.e. child abuse, rape, blood alcohol, gunshot wound, medical examiner, Baker Act, Marchman Act, human trafficking and elder abuse). 1.7B Performs patient care and communications within the guidelines of the Relationship and Results Oriented Healthcare Model utilizing the recommended bundles of best practice. 1.8B Communicates and completes handoff documentation for effective handoff of patients care (SBAR) for admission or transfer to another health care facility. 1.9B Follow ENA Guidelines for clinical, competency, staffing, and care of the patient. 1.10B As a core member of the "Stroke Alert Team", maintains up to date stroke education at a minimum of four (4) hours annually. 1.11B Completes annual certification of the NIH Stroke Scale offered through HRMC electronic education system as assigned. 1.12B Participates as a core member of the STEMI Alert Team in the Emergency Department. 1.13B PerformsB.E.F.A.S.T.
(Balance, Eyes, Face, Arms, Speech, Time) Assessments on patients presenting with Stroke-like symptoms. 1.14B Demonstrates proficiency in the STEMI Alert Process, Chest Pain Protocols, NSTEMI Protocols. 1.15B Ability to set up and perform telemedicine consults for Neurology & CardiologyCOMPLIANCE/FINANCIAL
Supports HRMC's Mission Statement and follows the Medical Centeds Compliance Program and Ethical Standards of Conduct. Supports Departmental Policies related to compliance and completes documentation in observance of regulatory standards. Attends training and in services concerning all aspects of assigned duties. Responsibilities to include, but not limited to, federal and state statutes, regulations and guidelines. Reports any incidences of suspected fraud, waste or abuse violations to the Compliance Officer. Utilizes PTO/DTO system appropriately. Maintains adequate supplies on the unit and ensures that all patient charges are properly recorded.COMMUNICATION/INTERPERSONAL SKILLS
Acts as a liaison between patients, providers, nursing and other departments to facilitate a collaborative practice in the provision of quality patient care. Investigates specific problems objectively, timely, and completely before making judgments or decisions. Utilizes available resources as appropriate. Demonstrates knowledge of nursing and administrative hierarchical structure and chain of command. Follows proper lines of communication. Notifies provider(s) of pertinent observations, reactions, incidents, and abnormal diagnostic tests as required.
