The asphalt Roller Operator will be responsible for smoothing out and compressing the asphalt into its final position on the roadway. This job is completed with an asphalt rolling machine and employee will operate tandem or three-wheel steel roller for finishing of bases and asphalt surfaces. May also operate rubber-tired roller on bases and asphalt surfaces at times.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for properly operating an asphalt rolling machine. Must be able to start and operate machine, to include manipulating the levers that guide the machines attachments in an effort to create the smoothest and most level asphalt possible. Must be able to operate and maneuver roller as necessary to ascertain compaction of materials laid on roadway or jobsite through roller patterns and mix designs. Must be able to complete general maintenance on machine to include checking oil, greasing, servicing, and providing normal operating adjustments to equipment. Must be able to work under varying weather conditions and temperatures.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Physically able to climb off and on equipment. Ability to sit and drive approximately 70%; stand or walk approximately 30% of a 10-to-12-hour shift. Ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions to coordinate two or more limbs while sitting, standing, or lying down. Ability to time movements or the movement of a piece of equipment in anticipation of changes in the speed and/or direction of a moving object or scene. Ability to judge which of several objects is closer or farther away, or to judge the distance. Ability to quickly respond (with the hand, finger, or foot) to a signal (sound, light, picture) when it appears.QUALIFICATIONS
High School diploma/GED. Ability to communicate effectively to team members Documented knowledge of roller patterns and DOT requirements for specified mix designs, smoothness and proper sealing of surfaces. Must have reliable transportation and acceptable driver's license/driving record. Candidates must be able to work overtime, nights, and weekends, as projects demand. Candidates must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test as well as random tests if selected during employment.BENEFITS
