Responsibilities:
MV Transportation is seeking a dedicated and experienced Safety and Training Manager to lead our safety initiatives and training programs. This hands-on managerial role is pivotal in ensuring compliance with Local, State, and Federal regulations, as well as corporate and client policies. This position will answer directly to the division general manager. The successful candidate will spearhead OSHA, CHP, and CDL compliance at the division level, fostering a culture of safety and accountability across the dvision.
Job Responsibilities:
Training Leadership:
Set the standard for ensuring all operators are up-to-date with training requirements, aligning with both company mandates and contract specifications.
Safety Program Management:
Maintain and update all safety manuals, programs, policies, and practices to meet the evolving needs of our operating divisions.
Regulatory Expertise:
Serve as the primary expert on EPA, OSHA, and CDL compliance, ensuring all practices adhere to current regulations.
Hiring Compliance:
Oversee the driver hiring process to ensure all new employees meet the minimum qualifications, including comprehensive background and DMV checks.
Technology Utilization:
Ensure the effective use of safety technology (OET) tools, analyzing results, identifying trends, and formulating strategies to mitigate and prevent future safety incidents.
Incentive Program Oversight:
Manage corporate safety incentive programs consistently, including the assignment and tracking of Safety Points.
Safety Culture Promotion:
Foster a cohesive safety culture across all division locations that integrates operations, safety, and maintenance departments, emphasizing teamwork and individual accountability.
Claims Management:
Collaborate with corporate claims staff to ensure timely and effective handling of liability and workers' compensation claims, aiming to minimize financial exposure and recover on subrogatable claims.
Injury Claim Oversight:
Proactively manage employee injury claims to reduce lost time and facilitate light duty placements, ensuring injured employees return to full or light duty as swiftly as possible.
Audit Leadership:
Oversee the successful completion of all safety audits conducted by corporate, client, and regulatory agencies, ensuring compliance and readiness at all times.
Instructional Leadership:
Lead the division in safety training, including classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction, in accordance with corporate and client specifications.
Qualifications:
Talent Requirements:
Transit Safety Experience:
Proven experience in transit and para transit safety management, with a focus on urban public transportation settings.
Industry Background:
Demonstrated experience working in the transit industry, particularly in urban environments, and familiarity with the unique challenges associated with public transportation.
Passenger Transportation Experience:
Previous experience in passenger transportation within current or similar projects is highly preferred.
Educational Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Transportation Management, or a related field, or a minimum of five (5) years of relevant safety management experience.
Professional Certifications:
Preferred certifications include Certified Director of Safety (CDS) and/or Certified Safety Professional (CSP). Additional certifications must meet local contract requirements.
Regulatory Knowledge:
In-depth knowledge of all applicable safety regulations and rules, including those set by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), and Department of Transportation (DOT).
Corporate Safety Programs:
Familiarity with corporate safety programs and policies, ensuring alignment with both regulatory and organizational standards.
Language Proficiency:
Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently; bilingual skills are a plus.
Effective Communication Skills:
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively across all departments and levels of the organization.
Independent Work Ethic:
Ability to work independently, objectively, and with minimal supervision while maintaining a proactive approach to challenges.
Organizational Skills:
Excellent organizational abilities to manage multiple tasks and projects efficiently.
Leadership and Delegation:
Proven ability to effectively delegate tasks while providing appropriate supervision and follow-up to team members.
Technical Proficiency:
Proficient in Windows-based operating systems and Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Analytical Skills:
Strong analytical skills to assess safety data, identify trends, and develop actionable solutions.
Microsoft Applications Expertise:
Extensive experience with Microsoft applications, leveraging technology to enhance safety management processes.
Starting salary range:
