Job Description

Title:
Safety Manager Reports to: VP -
Safety & Risk Management Summary:
The Safety Manager will be expected to demonstrate the standards that are consistent with the high expectations throughout the organization with regards to Safety, Service and Margin. Designs, develops and implements initiatives and processes as part of a company-wide comprehensive safety program. This includes developing a strategy and monitoring the effective execution of various areas in transportation safety, safety awareness, accident investigation and environmental compliance activities across the divisions, all as part of creating a safety culture throughout the organization. A significant part of the job also includes coordinating activities with other departments and outside agencies, and tracking /measuring the effectiveness of programs over time. Additionally, includes direction set forth by the
VP of Safety & Risk Management Major Duties:
    Leadership:
    Influence others to accomplish objectives by conveying vision, developing plans and setting goals. Engage employees through communication, coaching, and training. Get results through leading other people.
      Controlling & Reporting :
      Conducts periodic reviews to determine compliance with policies and procedures; participates in annual audits. Reviews accident investigations and participates as directed; ensures proper policies and procedures are followed; prepares (in conjunction with others) monthly reports; provides analysis of trends / data and provides recommendations for follow-up and action planning.
        Staff Development:
        Recruiting, selecting and training employees. Performance management, personal development planning and succession planning.
          Safety:
          Promote Safety & Health Services. Serves as the strategic catalyst for setting the direction of the Safety program; works with senior leaders across the businesses and functions to inspire participation and to bring cohesiveness and synergy to the program. Provides guidance for departmental processes and activities including compliance with safety regulations and the investigation of accidents; provides leadership as recommendations regarding the design, embedment and administration of all safety related initiatives, policies, procedures and tactical processes. Oversees the companies and driving employees CSA Scores; with the objective to maintain all scores within an acceptable / passing range. Creating and implementing updated policies and procedures for training if scores should rise to threshold limits.
            Compliance Management:
            Ensure compliance with DOT, OSHA, and Hazardous Materials regulations and laws. Maintain and apply knowledge of current policies, regulations, and trucking industry processes. Be aware of pending and upcoming changes to Federal & State Trucking Regulations to ensure our programs are prepared for future compliance requirements
            • Assist in developing offsite orientation programs
            • Assist in developing innovative, impactful and meaningful safety programs
            • Determine and analyze Safety and Regulatory needs of specific segments of organization personnel such as drivers, office workers, maintenance personnel, and supervisors
            • Assist in the formulation of plans, procedures, and programs to meet specific Safety needs
            • Develop and compile materials and other aids, obtain equipment, videos, and other visual aids
            • Develop and direct the administration of employee testing programs
            • Maintain contact with other organizations, training organizations, and associations for the purpose of keeping abreast of new developments
            • Assist coworkers as needed with other safety functions
            • Perform other safety related duties as needed by management
            Job Requirements/Work Area Conditions:
            Education:
            College- Preferably
            B.S./B.A.
            Certifications:
            CDS (Certified Director of Safety) certification
            Experience:
            5+ year in a management role. Safety Management experience preferred
            Type of Experience:
            Safety and/or
            Risk Management Special Skills:
            Teaching/training experience, strong knowledge of local, state and federal safety regulations, risk management and OSHA.
            • Knowledge of Environmental compliance.
            • Working knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications.
            • Must be able to travel as necessary to work across our nationwide operations.
            • Ability to lead, clearly articulate a vision and inspire others to action - both within their direct team and, more critically, across the company.
            • High-energy and resourceful self-starter with a passion for results and a demonstrated track record in delivering results.
            • Track record of strong collaboration and communication skills.
            • Excellent time management skills, with ability to lead multiple projects, tasks and completing priorities.
