Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
Support the Safety Manager in safety-related functions within the shipyards. Perform safety activities on Company property to evaluate, identify, and correct potential safety issues.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING
Because Eastern Shipbuilding is continually growing to meet the needs of our customers; your duties and responsibilities may be different than described. Regular attendance at work and the ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays. Comply with company, Federal, State, and local safety, ethics, and environmental rules, regulations, and policies while performing duties. Inspect designated workplace areas. Assist in enforcing the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and safety equipment. Assist in the issuance and monitoring of hot work permits, confined space entries, and lockout/ tag-out permits. Administer first aid as needed. Conduct Safety Orientation. Administer post-accident/ near-miss drug tests as required. Advance knowledge of safety (minimum 18 months of safety experience) and knowledge of fire or medical (preferred). Including a type of certification or medical/fire class. Advanced computer skills, including word, Excel. Holds teamwork and consistency in high regard Have a solid foundational knowledge of safety (minimum 12 months of safety experience) and fire or medical(preferred). Due to the need for medical professionals, experience may be substituted Solid computer knowledge, including word, Excel. Safety Competent Person trained. Perform other duties as assigned.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.REQUIREMENTS
Education/ Experience:
High school diploma or GED equivalence plus one year of safety experience in a manufacturing or construction environment desired. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Knowledge of ship terminology, safety, and OSHA regulations is desired. Shipyard Competent Person Certification is required. Completion of First Aid and CPR training desired.Skills:
Basic level Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, Company policies/ procedures, and governmental regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisors and employees. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.Behavioral Attributes:

The ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver's license is required.PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing throughout the workday. The employee must frequently lift and/ or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must be physically and medically qualified to wear all required personal protective equipment, as prescribed under Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards. The employee must be able to work above ground at heights of a minimum of 50 feet aloft and/ or working from scaffolding and/ or man-lifts while working with machinery; in confined spaces and withstanding extreme heat and cold in an outside climate or confined space.WORK ENVIRONMENT
