Position Description The Safety Specialist I plays a critical role in protecting team members and maintaining a safe, compliant work environment at Applied Medical's facilities in Rancho Santa Margarita, California. Working within a collaborative occupational health and safety team, this position conducts facility inspections, investigates incidents, delivers safety training, and ensures adherence to federal and state regulations. The Safety Specialist I partners cross-functionally to reduce workplace hazards and drive a proactive safety culture. Professionals with backgrounds in environmental health and safety, industrial safety, or occupational safety and health will find this role a strong match. Key Responsibilities Conduct inspections of facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify hazards and ensure Cal/OSHA Title 8 compliance Investigate workplace incidents to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence Audit Applied Medical buildings against California Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA) regulations and safety standards Deliver safety training to team members and advise on proper use of safety devices and industrial controls Assist in developing and maintaining safety plans, policies, and procedures in alignment with legal guidelines Analyze safety data and prepare reports for leadership, including findings, risk assessments, and improvement recommendations Evaluate practices, procedures, and facilities to assess risk and ensure adherence to regulatory requirements Success in This Role Looks Like Facility inspections are thorough, well-documented, and completed on schedule Incident investigations produce clear root cause findings and actionable corrective measures Cal/OSHA audit results reflect a high standard of compliance across Applied Medical facilities Safety training sessions improve awareness and adherence across teams Reports and data analysis delivered to leadership are accurate, organized, and on time Cross-functional partners view the Safety Specialist I as a reliable and knowledgeable resource Position Requirements This position requires the following skills and attributes: Associate's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent Strong knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment Demonstrated ability to produce reports and develop safety-related policies Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills High attention to detail and strong observational ability Effective communication and interpersonal skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems such as Systems, Applications, and Products in Data Processing (SAP) Preferred The following skills and attributes are preferred: Proficiency in Cal/OSHA Title 8 regulations Associate Safety Professional (ASP) certification in Occupational Health and Safety Minimum of one year of experience in occupational health and safety Benefits Competitive compensation range: $30 - $32 / hour (California).
