Job Description
Job Summary:
This position holds a pivotal dual role as the first point of authority and the welcoming face of City Hall. This unarmed guard is entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring the safety and security of City Facilities and its occupants while also serving as the initial point of contact for visitors, ensuring a warm and secure welcome. This role as both protector and greeter is integral to the institution's success and positive image.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Monitors access to City Facilities to ensure visitors and guests have valid reasons for entry. Responds to alarms, emergencies, and incidents and take appropriate actions as necessary, including contacting law enforcement or other relevant agencies. Enforces City Facilities security policies and procedures. Provides service and directions to visitors and staff when needed. Reports and documents security incidents, suspicious activities, and safety hazards. Conducts regular patrols of City Hall, City Recreational and City Cultural premises to ensure the safety and security of the building, its occupants, and property. Monitors surveillance cameras and alarms to promptly detect and respond to security breaches and emergencies. Manages City employee security access through an online system, including partnering with current vendors to make appropriate updates. Assists with emergency evacuations and drills. Maintains and ensures the functionality of security equipment. May patrol other City facilities within appropriate distance, as needed.Qualifications:
High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required • Previous law enforcement, military police, safety and/or security experience preferred. A combination of education and experience deemed appropriate to fulfill the role and responsibilities of this position may be considered. Must possess a valid South Dakota driver's license or ability to obtain within 30 days from date of hire Must possess or obtain a Security License issued by the Rapid City Police Department within 6 months or acceptable amount of time as determined by hiring authority Must complete continued education as required by position needs.Work Environment:
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to various environmental conditions typical of a security role, including indoor and outdoor settings. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands for various tasks. The employee may need to climb stairs, kneel, crouch, or crawl when necessary. The employee may occasionally need to lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds.
