Job Description

Position Overview We are seeking a high-performing, strategic leader to join our Northern California Employee Benefits practice as a VP, Account Executive Team Lead . This individual will be responsible for managing a book of complex, large-market client relationships while also leading, mentoring, and developing a team of Account Executives. This is a highly visible role requiring deep technical expertise in employee benefits, strong client relationship management skills, and a proven ability to drive team performance, growth, and retention in a fast-paced brokerage environment. Key Responsibilities Client Leadership & Advisory Serve as the senior strategic advisor for a portfolio of large, complex clients (typically 1,000+ lives, including public sector, nonprofit, and corporate accounts) Lead annual strategic planning, renewal negotiations, and ongoing benefits program optimization Provide consultative guidance across health & welfare programs including medical, dental, vision, pharmacy, and voluntary benefits Present to executive stakeholders (C-suite, HR leadership, boards) with confidence and credibility Identify opportunities for cross-sell and expansion within existing accounts Team Leadership & Development Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Account Executives and client service professionals Establish performance goals, provide regular coaching, and conduct performance evaluations Foster a collaborative, high-accountability team culture Partner with leadership on talent development, succession planning, and recruiting efforts Ensure consistency in service delivery, client strategy execution, and best practices Business Development & Growth Support new business efforts by participating in finalist presentations and RFP responses Collaborate with producers to expand market presence and deepen client relationships Contribute to regional growth strategy and revenue targets Operational Excellence Oversee client service execution to ensure high retention and client satisfaction Partner with internal subject matter experts (compliance, analytics, actuarial, wellbeing) to deliver integrated solutions Ensure adherence to compliance, regulatory standards, and brokerage best practices Drive process improvements and efficiencies within the team Qualifications 10+ years of experience in employee benefits brokerage or consulting Demonstrated success managing large, complex client relationships Prior experience leading or mentoring Account Executives or client service teams Strong technical expertise in health & welfare plan design, funding arrangements, and market trends Proven ability to influence senior-level decision-makers Experience working with public sector or multi-employer clients is a plus California Life & Health License required (or ability to obtain promptly) Key Competencies Strategic leadership and team development Executive presence and communication Client relationship management and retention Problem-solving and analytical thinking Collaboration and cross-functional partnership Results-oriented with a growth mindset Compensation & Benefits Competitive base salary + performance-based bonus Comprehensive benefits package (medical, dental, vision, 401(k), etc.) Hybrid work flexibility within Northern California
