We live and work in wildfire country. Our customers aren't buying a remodel — they're buying the difference between a home that survives an ember storm and one that doesn't. We specialize in fire hardening and wildfire resilience: ember-resistant vents, non-combustible siding, fire-rated decks, WUI retrofits, and defensible space support. We also install James Hardie fiber cement siding, composite and PVC decking, premium railing systems, and Fortress steel deck framing. We are small, growing, and deliberately built. We don't cold-pressure homeowners, we don't sell what they don't need, and we don't cut corners on details nobody sees. That reputation is the whole asset. The opportunity This is the first sales hire outside the owner, and it's built to become the top of the sales organization. As Sales Manager you will be responsible for driving all sales for the company. You'll start by carrying the bag yourself — running in-home consultations, building estimates, writing proposals, and closing work. While you're selling, you'll be building: turning what works into a documented, repeatable sales process. Then you'll hire, train, and lead the reps who run it. If you've ever sat in a sales meeting thinking I could build this better from scratch — this is that job. You're not inheriting someone else's playbook. You're writing it. You'll report directly to the owner, with real authority over how the sales function gets built and full visibility into the business behind it. Marketing in already in place, your job will be to convert leads and opportunities into qualified sales for the company. What you'll ownPhase 1 — Sell (Months 1-6) Run in-home consultations and inspections across Shasta County and the North State Assess homes for wildfire vulnerability: vents, decks, siding, eaves, and the ember-ignition points most contractors miss Build accurate estimates and present clear, honest proposals Own your pipeline end to end — first call through signed contract and handoff to production Hit and exceed individual sales targets while learning the products, the codes, and the customer Phase 2 — Build the system (Months 3-12, overlapping) Document the sales process: lead intake, appointment setting, the in-home consultation, proposal format, follow-up cadence, and close Standardize estimating — pricing structures, measurement standards, margin discipline, change-order handling Build the pipeline discipline in our CRM (JobTread): stage definitions, activity requirements, reporting that actually gets used Create the sales playbook: product knowledge, fire-hardening technical training, objection handling, and the consultative approach that fits our brand Define the metrics that matter — set rate, close rate, average ticket, gross margin per sale, speed to proposal — and build the reporting to track them Phase 3 — Build the team (Year 1 and beyond) Recruit, interview, and hire sales reps as volume supports it Onboard and train new hires against the program you built Run field ride-alongs, one-on-one coaching, and regular sales meetings Monitor rep performance, flag problems early, and coach or correct Own the entire sales program — headcount, targets, comp plan input, forecast, and results What we're looking for Required 3+ years of in-home or field sales experience with a track record you can document Comfort with a consultative, longer-cycle sale along with one time visit closes — our construction sales are a hybrid of both. Ability to build accurate estimates and read a job for what it actually costs Physically able to inspect homes — ladders, attics, crawlspaces, uneven terrain Strong written communication; proposals here are documents customers actually read Valid California driver's license, reliable vehicle, clean driving record Genuinely comfortable with technology — CRM, spreadsheets, digital takeoffs, photo documentation Strongly preferred Exterior construction background: siding, decking, roofing, windows, or restoration Experience training, coaching, or managing other salespeople Familiarity with WUI building standards, Chapter 7A, or California defensible space requirements — or the appetite to become an expert fast Experience standing up a process where none existed Who this is not for Anyone who needs an existing structure to succeed inside of Anyone whose closing method depends on pressure, urgency games, or discount theater Anyone who wants to sell but not build Compensation Base salary: $60,000 - $80,000 per year , depending on experience.
