A Director of Business Development is a highly specialized Business Development Manager. Plans and directs sale of products or services to customers. Coordinates sales distribution. Establishes sales territories, quotas and/or goals for staff, and provides training for sales representatives. Analyzes sales data to monitor customer preferences and develops strategies for increasing sales.
The Business Services Director is a key leadership role responsible for driving the strategic direction and execution of business engagement, employer partnerships, and workforce solutions at the American Job Center. This role combines strategic vision with operational execution and hands-on leadership to deliver innovative workforce services that align with regional economic development goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategy & Innovation Develop and implement a forward-thinking Business Services strategy that aligns with local labor market trends and economic development plans. Identify emerging workforce needs and design innovative solutions to connect employers with qualified talent. Establish metrics and KPIs to evaluate service delivery impact and continuously improve performance. Business Engagement & Sales Actively engage with employers, industry groups, and chambers of commerce to promote the center's services. Build a robust pipeline of employer partners through outreach, relationship building, and value-based workforce solutions. Lead demand-driven initiatives and custom workforce programs based on employer needs (e.g., job fairs, upskilling, apprenticeships). Execution & Leadership Lead a team of Business Services Job Developer and Career Developer and coordinate cross-functional initiatives across workforce programs. Oversee the execution of employer engagement strategies, job development, and placement services. Ensure compliance with WIOA, TFA and other relevant federal, state, and local workforce development regulations. Hands-On Management Engage directly with employers and job seekers when needed, demonstrating a commitment to service excellence. Support grant applications and program development that expand workforce solutions and innovation capacity. Manage data, reporting, and feedback to drive decisions and improve customer satisfaction.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Business, Public Administration, Human Resources, or related field (Master's preferred). 7+ years of experience in business development, workforce development, or economic development. Proven leadership experience with a strong track record in strategy, innovation, and execution. Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills. Understanding of WIOA legislation and public workforce system preferred.
