More than a typical sales manager role, this role is tasked with establishing the company's sales strategy, processes, performance expectations, sales reporting, and CRM infrastructure while also actively developing new business and growing existing accounts. The successful candidate will be a builder and leader who can develop a structured sales organization while remaining highly engaged with customers and the marketplace.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Build and Implement the Sales Function

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive sales strategy aligned with company objectives.
  • Establish sales goals, performance expectations, and measurable KPIs.
  • Develop standardized procedures for prospecting, quoting, follow-up, account management, and customer development.
  • Establish a sales forecast and pipeline-management process.
  • Implement and maintain an effective CRM system and ensure accurate utilization by the sales team.
  • Develop sales reports and dashboards that provide management with meaningful visibility into sales activity and results. 2. Drive New Business Development
  • Develop and execute strategies for acquiring new customers.
  • Identify target markets, industries, geographic areas, and customer segments with significant growth potential.
  • Develop prospect lists and establish systematic prospecting activities.
  • Personally participate in developing and closing significant new business opportunities.
  • Establish expectations for new customer onboarding, sales calls, customer visits, proposals, follow-up, and other business-development activities.
  • Monitor the sales pipeline and ensure sufficient opportunities exist to support future revenue objectives. 3. Grow and Retain Existing Customers
  • Develop strategies to increase sales with existing customers.
  • Identify opportunities for cross-selling, up-selling, and introducing additional products or services.
  • Establish key-account management practices for strategically important customers.
  • Monitor customer satisfaction and proactively address issues that could affect retention.
  • Develop strong relationships with key decision-makers and purchasing contacts. 4. Lead and Develop the Sales Team
  • Recruit, hire, train, and develop sales personnel as the sales organization grows.
  • Establish individual sales goals and performance expectations.
  • Conduct regular sales meetings and individual performance reviews.
  • Coach salespeople on prospecting, relationship development, presentations, negotiations, and closing.
  • Monitor sales activity and results and provide appropriate accountability.
  • Establish compensation and incentive recommendations in conjunction with company management.
  • Develop a culture of accountability, professionalism, customer service, and continuous improvement. Skills and Abilities

  • Occasional travel to emerging markets
  • Must be able to use Microsoft Office Suite skills (Outlook, Excel, Word)
  • Must be on road 10-15% of the time, mostly local travel
  • Must be able to work some holidays Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in sales or marketing, preferred.
  • Experience with CRM systems and sales reporting, required.
  • 5+ years sales and marketing experience, preferred.
  • Previous sales management or sales leadership experience, preferred.
