We are seeking a relationship-driven Commercial Sales Manager to help identify new opportunities, strengthen client partnerships, and support Curran's continued growth. This role is ideal for someone who understands the construction industry, enjoys building relationships, and can connect market intelligence with business opportunities. Position Summary The Commercial Sales Manager - Paving and Materials, is responsible for growing profitable OTC HMA and material sales, strengthening customer relationships, improving plant-market utilization, and supporting broader paving sales and business-development efforts throughout the year. This individual serves as the primary point of contact for contractors, municipalities, and other customers while driving sales growth, gross margin performance, customer retention, and market expansion. The role partners closely with operations, dispatch, quality control, accounting, and company leadership to ensure exceptional customer service and project execution. Key Accountabilities Sales Growth Grow annual OTC hot mix sales volume. Develop new customer relationships and business opportunities. Increase market share within Curran's service territory. Expand sales with existing customers. Gross Margin Performance Achieve established gross margin targets. Support pricing strategies that balance competitiveness and profitability. Monitor market conditions and competitive activity. Customer Relationships Maintain strong relationships with contractors, municipalities, developers, and public agencies. Resolve customer concerns in a professional and timely manner. Deliver exceptional customer service before, during, and after projects. Forecasting & Communication Provide sales forecasts and market intelligence. Communicate customer demand trends to operations and leadership. Assist with annual budgeting and sales planning activities. Cross-Functional Coordination Collaborate with plant personnel, dispatch, quality control, accounting, superintendents, and leadership. Ensure customer orders are executed efficiently and accurately. Support collections and account resolution efforts when necessary. Position Duties & Responsibilities Develop and maintain relationships with asphalt paving contractors, excavators, municipalities, and commercial customers. Identify and pursue new business opportunities. Regularly conduct customer visits, jobsite visits, and networking activities. Prepare quotations and communicate pricing to customers. Process and manage customer hot mix orders. Monitor customer activity, project schedules, and future opportunities. Assist in forecasting production demand and sales volume. Track and report sales activity and market trends. Support collection efforts and customer account management. Attend industry, municipal, and customer events as appropriate. Represent the company professionally. Demonstrate and promote a strong commitment to safety while visiting job sites, plants, and customer locations. Support additional Curran business development initiatives and projects as needed and during off season months Qualifications Minimum of 3 years of sales, business development, or customer relationship management experience Bachelor's degree preferred Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record. Strong interpersonal and communication skills Self-motivated with the ability to work independently Proficient with Microsoft Office applications. Ability to travel regularly throughout the service area. Travel throughout Northern Illinois is required, with a primary focus on DeKalb, Kane, McHenry, Boone, Lee, Ogle, and surrounding counties.
