Job Description
Operations & Sales Manager The Operations & Sales Manager oversees all aspects of field and warehouse operations, ensuring efficient coordination between crews, administrative teams, and sales channels. This role provides strategic leadership across harvesting, post-harvest handling, wholesale distribution, and administrative systems. The Manager will supervise operational staff, set performance expectations, streamline workflows, and support cross-departmental communication to meet production and sales goals. Key Responsibilities Crew & Field Operations Management Oversee the creation and execution of daily and weekly crew schedules and task assignments. Supervise field leaders and ensure effective delegation of daily priorities across harvest, weeding, and general field operations. Review and adjust pick lists and harvest priorities based on real-time order flow, crop readiness, and weather conditions. Conduct regular field assessments to evaluate crop progress, PYO (Pick-Your-Own) conditions, and cultural practices, using data to guide planning decisions. Monitor crew performance, efficiency, and adherence to safety and quality standards; provide coaching and training as needed. Coordinate gleaning efforts and external partners for surplus crop utilization. Administrative & Office Oversight Supervise administrative staff responsible for documentation, recordkeeping, and internal communication systems. Ensure accuracy and consistency in sales spreadsheets, maps, and digital filing systems. Oversee receiving office operations—manage logistics coordination, driver interactions, and incoming deliveries. Support internal communication by maintaining updated product visuals and ensuring alignment between marketing, sales, and operations. Lead the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for administrative workflows. Dock & Facility Oversight Manage and ensure smooth operations and cleanliness of the dock, washroom, greenhouse, and related facilities. Oversee produce washing, packing, and storage processes to maintain product quality and meet food safety standards. Conduct regular inventory checks on packaging and facility supplies, implementing systems for consistent restocking and accountability. Work closely with food safety and compliance personnel to uphold best practices across facilities. Wholesale & Retail Operations Management Lead the wholesale order management process through BlueCart and other sales systems, ensuring accuracy and timely fulfillment. Supervise staff responsible for maintaining wholesale availability lists, customer communication, and POS system updates. Analyze sales trends to guide pricing strategies, product promotions, and surplus management initiatives. Oversee the development and distribution of Farmer's Choice Box (FCB) and CSA programs, ensuring smooth coordination with production and marketing teams. Build and maintain relationships with key wholesale partners (e.g., Baldor, Roche Bros, Boston Food Hub). Produce Purchasing & Inventory Control Direct all produce purchasing and vendor relations, including Baldor and Chelsea Market vendors. Evaluate market trends and pricing data to inform purchasing decisions and maintain balanced inventory levels. Negotiate with suppliers to ensure cost-effective procurement and consistent quality standards. Oversee the documentation and reconciliation of all inventory transactions. General Operations & Strategic Planning Collaborate with leadership on annual crop planning and production forecasts based on historical data and emerging trends. Identify and implement process improvements across warehouse, field, and administrative functions. Lead staff training and professional development to build cross-functional capacity and operational resilience. Report regularly to senior leadership on operational performance, labor efficiency, and key metrics. Qualifications 3-5 years of experience in farm operations, logistics, or production management (preferably in agricultural or food distribution environments). Demonstrated leadership and team management experience. Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Proficiency in POS systems, Excel/Google Sheets, and farm management software. Ability to work collaboratively across departments under time-sensitive conditions.
