$175,000•250,000+ About Z Transportation Z Transportation is a family-owned transportation and logistics company based in New Jersey. Since 2006, we have built our company around reliability, strong customer service, and long-term relationships. As we continue to grow, we are expanding into warehouse, distribution, and 3PL services to better support our customers with complete logistics solutions. We are looking for a strong senior leader to help launch, manage, and grow our warehouse and 3PL operation from the ground up. This is not a basic warehouse manager position. We are looking for someone with real 3PL, warehouse operations, logistics, customer onboarding, and business development experience who can help build the foundation for a successful warehouse division. Position Overview The Director of 3PL Operations & Business Development will be responsible for leading the setup and daily management of the warehouse operation while also helping grow the customer base for warehousing, storage, distribution, fulfillment, cross-dock, and 3PL services. The ideal candidate understands how to run a professional warehouse operation, manage labor and KPIs, work with WMS systems, build SOPs, control costs, manage inventory accuracy, and communicate with customers. This person should also be comfortable helping with customer proposals, pricing, onboarding, and identifying new warehouse business opportunities. This role will work directly with ownership and will play a major part in building a new division of the company. Key Responsibilities Lead the launch, setup, and daily operation of the warehouse / 3PL division. Develop warehouse processes, SOPs, workflows, and operational standards. Manage receiving, shipping, inventory control, storage, fulfillment, cross-dock, dock operations, and customer orders. Implement and manage WMS systems, reporting tools, and operational dashboards. Track and improve warehouse KPIs, including inventory accuracy, dock-to-stock time, labor productivity, pick rates, order accuracy, safety, and customer service. Hire, train, schedule, and manage warehouse supervisors, leads, and associates as the operation grows. Manage labor planning, staffing, productivity, costs, and operational profitability. Work directly with ownership on warehouse pricing, storage rates, handling fees, accessorial billing, customer agreements, and service proposals. Help identify, pursue, and onboard new warehouse and 3PL customers. Build and maintain strong customer relationships with warehouse and logistics clients. Support business development by helping create warehouse solutions for current and future customers. Work closely with Z Transportation's trucking operation to create complete transportation, warehouse, and distribution solutions. Manage inventory accuracy, cycle counts, customer reporting, claims, service issues, and process improvements. Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and compliant warehouse operation. Build the structure needed for long-term growth of the warehouse division. Qualifications 10+ years of warehouse, distribution, logistics, fulfillment, or 3PL operations experience preferred. Strong 3PL experience is highly preferred. Experience starting, scaling, or improving a warehouse / 3PL operation is a major plus. Experience with multi-customer or multi-client warehouse operations preferred. Strong WMS experience required. Experience with warehouse pricing, storage billing, handling fees, accessorials, labor costing, and operational profitability preferred. Experience with customer onboarding, client relationships, and warehouse service proposals preferred. Experience managing KPIs, P&L, labor costs, productivity, inventory accuracy, and customer service performance. Experience leading warehouse teams, supervisors, leads, and operational staff. Strong understanding of receiving, shipping, inventory, fulfillment, cross-dock, dock operations, storage, and distribution. Ability to work directly with ownership and help build a new business division. Strong leadership, communication, organization, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Transportation or trucking experience is a plus, but warehouse and 3PL experience are the priority. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate has already helped build, manage, or scale a warehouse, distribution center, fulfillment center, or 3PL operation. We are especially interested in candidates with experience from companies such as DHL, GXO, XPO, Ryder, Penske, Kuehne+Nagel, Geodis, NFI, Maersk, Saddle Creek, Kenco, CJ Logistics, FedEx Supply Chain, UPS Supply Chain Solutions, CEVA, DSV, Stord, ShipBob, or similar logistics and 3PL companies. We value real 3PL experience more than years alone. The right person should understand operations, customers, pricing, labor, systems, and profitability.
