Job Description

Overview The Director of Sales has a primary duty of making sales and obtaining orders or contracts for the venue. This position is responsible for generating, managing, and coordinating outside catering sales, as well as initiating, directing, and implementing marketing functions in the Catering Department. The Director of Sales will independently manage and oversee all aspects of full group operations from reservation through contract negotiation and finalization to group reception and event catering. The Director of Sales maintains a consistently positive and professional relationship with internal and external clients. The Director of Sales will handle sales and customer service issues, including providing outstanding customer service; researching, resolving, and clarifying invoice questions; and providing knowledgeable and appropriate suggestions regarding menu selections. The Director of Sales will facilitate the flow of information internally, as well as communicate with all guests and vendors. Must be available to assist with general catering and game day operations as needed. This role pays an annual salary of $60,000- $70,000 and is commission eligible.

Responsibilities Direct and participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities of all sales programs and activities. Assume management responsibility for all services and activities of the Sales Department within the facility, including sales tools and materials, proposals, sales calls, and contracts. Select, train, motivate, direct, and evaluate all sales personnel; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; and implement discipline and termination procedures. Plan, direct, coordinate, and review the work plan for providing marketing, booking, and sales services. Participate in the development and administration of the annual budget and forecast of additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; direct the monitoring of and approve expenditures; and direct and implement adjustments as necessary. Prepare written proposals; reevaluate potential business value of various events and clients; initiate contractual arrangements. Conduct tours of the facility for potential licensees; answer questions and provide information regarding facility capabilities. Meet with the General Manager on a regular basis to discuss all matters pertaining to sales operations. Travel to regional areas throughout the year in search of new business. Budget and work within the operating budget. Responsible for all revenue generation. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications 5-7 years of increasingly responsible sales experience for an arena, convention center, sports franchise, hotel, or other similar public assembly or hospitality facility, including leadership responsibility. Bachelor's degree or better from an accredited college or university with major course works in Marketing, Business Administration, or a related field. Ability to work event nights, weekends, and holidays as required. Has a strong track record of building relationships and generating new business. Excellent organizational skills, leadership skills, and customer service skills. Must have strong communications skills. Strong PC and data processing skills; working knowledge of MS Word and Excel, as well as database management software.
