Sales Manager
  • Water & Wastewater Industry Mercer Controls Edna, TX | Houston / South Texas Territory About Mercer Controls Mercer Controls is a rapidly growing electrical controls and automation company serving water and wastewater utilities across South Texas.
We design, build, install, and service control panels, VFD systems, instrumentation, and SCADA solutions for lift stations, water wells, water plants, and wastewater treatment facilities. Our customers include municipalities, contractors, and utility operators who rely on us to keep critical infrastructure running. As our company grows, we are looking for an experienced Sales Representative with an existing network in the water and wastewater industry to help expand our presence across the Houston and South Texas region. Position Overview Mercer Controls is seeking a relationship-driven Sales Manager with experience in the water and wastewater industry . The ideal candidate already understands the municipal utility market and has relationships with contractors, engineers, and public works departments. This role focuses primarily on developing new project opportunities and building long-term relationships with contractors and municipal customers. The position is mostly field-based, with time spent visiting customers, contractors, and project sites throughout the region. Key ResponsibilitiesBusiness Development Identify and pursue new project opportunities with contractors, municipalities, and engineering firms Develop strong relationships with general contractors, electrical contractors, and project managers Promote Mercer Controls' capabilities in control panels, instrumentation, VFD systems, and SCADA integration Maintain regular contact with public works directors, operators, and utility staff Project-Focused Sales Approximately 60-70% of time Work directly with general contractors, electrical subcontractors, and engineers on upcoming water and wastewater projects Position Mercer Controls as the preferred controls and automation partner Track project opportunities through bid stages and maintain strong contractor and engineer relationships Municipal & Utility Relationships Approximately 30-40% of time Visit cities, MUD districts, and municipal utilities across the region Build relationships with operators, maintenance supervisors, and public works leadership Identify service opportunities, upgrades, and project work Market Awareness Monitor upcoming projects through bid platforms and industry contacts Maintain awareness of engineers and consulting firms active in the region Represent Mercer Controls professionally at industry events when appropriate Ideal Candidate Background We are specifically looking for candidates with experience in the water and wastewater equipment market .
Strong backgrounds include:
Pump distributor sales Manufacturer representatives (ManRep firms) Equipment distributor sales Valve, instrumentation, blower, or treatment equipment sales Utility equipment vendors
Qualifications Required:
3+ years sales experience in the water or wastewater industry Existing relationships with contractors, engineers, or municipalities in Houston / South Texas Strong communication and relationship-building skills Self-driven and comfortable working independently Valid driver's license and willingness to travel within the region
Preferred:
Familiarity with municipal infrastructure projects Experience working with pumps, valves, instrumentation, or treatment equipment Understanding of bidding and project sales cycles Controls specific knowledge is ideal but not required Work Environment Mostly field and home-based , visiting customers and job sites Some time spent in the Edna office (1-2 days per week) Flexible schedule depending on customer meetings and project activity Travel primarily within Houston and South Texas Compensation Mercer Controls offers a competitive compensation package including: Base salary Commission or performance-based incentives Health insurance 401(k) plan with 5% match Paid time off Company vehicle or vehicle allowance Compensation will be structured to reward new business development and project wins .
