The Health Development Office within External Relations at the University of Virginia (UVA) is seeking highly qualified candidates to fill the roles of: 1. Associate Director of Development, School of Medicine 2. Position Summary The University of Virginia Health Development Office seeks accomplished and strategic fundraising professionals to fill the positions of Associate Director of Development and Senior Associate Director of Development for the School of Medicine. Reporting to the Director of Development, School of Medicine - Medical Alumni, these major gift officers will engage medical alumni to build relationships, strengthen the major gift pipeline, and secure philanthropic support. Both positions will focus on identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding prospects and donors, with an emphasis on alumni discovery work and major gift development. Each role will manage a regional portfolio and collaborate closely with faculty, advancement colleagues, and volunteer leaders. Additionally, these positions will help shape strategic direction for the Medical Alumni team, serving as thought partners to the Director of Development and other senior leaders across UVA Health Development. The Senior Associate Director will additionally contribute to team wide strategy, provide leadership within the Medical Alumni development team, and help shape long term fundraising priorities. Responsibilities (for both roles) Solicit and secure blended and major gifts. Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major gift prospects for the School of Medicine. Travel nationally to build relationships with alumni and donors. Advance the mission, vision, and fundraising priorities of UVA Health and the School of Medicine. Develop and execute individualized donor strategies and fundraising plans. Collaborate with colleagues across UVA Health Development on proposals, prospect strategy, and faculty partnerships. Partner with the Medical Alumni Association (MAA) and Medical School Foundation (MSF) on alumni engagement, events, communications, and philanthropic initiatives. Maintain accurate donor and prospect records in the Advancement CRM. Represent UVA and the School of Medicine with professionalism, emotional intelligence, and strong communication skills. Minimum Qualifications (Associate Director of Development) Bachelor's degree. Minimum of 3 years of fundraising, with a consistent record of securing gifts of $25,000+. Demonstrated ability to build relationships and manage a portfolio of prospects. Excellent communication skills and ability to articulate mission and priorities. Ability to travel frequently and work occasional evenings/weekends. Valid driver's license. Preferred Qualifications (Associate Director of Development) Master's degree and 4+ years of fundraising experience. Previous experience in higher education, academic medicine, or alumni relations. Familiarity with planned giving concepts. Proven success collaborating with faculty and organizational leaders. Experience serving as an ambassador at institutional events and donor engagements. Salesforce CRM experience. Minimum Qualifications (Senior Associate Director of Development) Bachelor's degree and at least 5 years of previous fundraising experience. Consistent record of soliciting and closing gifts of $100,000+. Ability to effectively articulate the school's mission, strategic aims, and fundraising programs; strong verbal and written communication skills. Experience working in a significant fundraising campaign or capital campaign and meeting desired goals. Experience managing high-level relationships. Proven success collaborating with faculty and organizational leaders. Experience serving as an ambassador at institutional events and donor engagements. Proven ability to navigate complex interpersonal dynamics with high emotional intelligence and professionalism. Ability to use a database to maintain and review records and reports such as donor data, prospect contacts, solicitations, and proposals. Ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team. Ability to hold oneself accountable to goals and metrics. Ability to travel frequently, as well as conduct occasional evening and weekend work. Valid driver's license. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree and 8+ years of previous fundraising experience. Success within collaborative fundraising models. Robust understanding of principles of philanthropy, higher education, alumni relations, and relationship management. Familiarity with planned giving concepts, tools, and donor conversations. Demonstrated success in major gift fundraising, including experience soliciting and closing gifts at the $100,000+ level. Previous experience working in an academic medical center and / or an academic/alumni fundraising environment. Proven experience building relationships with academic medical faculty and comparable organizational leaders. Salesforce CRM experience. Physical Demands This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs. Salary Range The anticipated hiring range for each position is: Associate Director of Development = $80K - $90K / year , commensurate with education and experience. Senior Associate Director of Development = $90K - $105K / year , commensurate with education and experience. Position Type & Work Location These are exempt-level, benefited positions. All team members must have access to and maintain a secure home office environment with high-speed internet service and be able to work collaboratively with others using a variety of technologies and tools.
