About the
Role:
UAB Medical West is seeking a customer-focused Cafeteria Cashier to join our Food & Nutrition Services team. The Cafeteria Cashier is responsible for providing excellent customer service, processing transactions accurately, maintaining a clean work area, and supporting daily cafeteria operations.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent. Certified Food Handler Card within 21 days of employment. Basic math and cash-handling skills. Strong customer service and communication abilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous cashier, retail, food service, or customer service experience. Experience using point-of-sale (POS) systems.
Responsibilities:
Greet and assist customers in a courteous and professional manner. Accurately process cash, credit card, and electronic transactions. Operate cash register and point-of-sale (POS) systems. Balance cash drawer and complete end-of-shift reconciliation. Maintain cleanliness and organization of cashier and dining areas. Restock supplies and assist with cafeteria operations as needed. Follow food safety, sanitation, and infection-control guidelines. Comply with all organizational policies and procedures.
Skills:
The successful candidate must possess excellent customer service skills and the ability to interact professionally and courteously with patients, visitors, and staff. The individual should have strong cash-handling and basic mathematical skills, with the ability to accurately process transactions using a cash register or point-of-sale system. The candidate must demonstrate attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Strong communication and teamwork skills are essential, along with the ability to follow established policies, procedures, and food safety standards. Basic computer skills and previous cashier or food service experience is preferred.
