Job Description
Scale House Cashier Reports to Scale House Supervisor in Bakersfield California Nature of Work Under general supervision, compute charges and distribute payment for recyclables and scrap metal: keep accurate records of receiving goods. Inspect and weigh scrap loads to determine quantity and type; direct traffic at the working face of the scale house; and perform other duties as required. Duties and Responsibilities
- Count money correctly in cashier drawer daily and be able to count money out to customers.
- Data entry of cash transactions into Accounting system accurately.
- Answer incoming calls regarding scrap, commodities we accept and price we are paying.
- Inspect trucks and other vehicles that are hauling scrap to determine proper classification of materials according to established regulations and policies.
- Measure the size of truckloads or trailer loads of scrap to be processed.
- Compute the total volume and calculate payments and issue receipts.
- Operate electronic scales.
- Identify restricted hazardous materials and refer haulers to appropriate agencies or sites.
- Maintain records commercial collection companies and other charge account customers.
- Direct truck and vehicle operators to proper unloading areas.
- Total cash drawer and receipts daily.
- Prepare, balance and reconcile cash to recorded revenues.
- Maintain daily records of receipts.
- Answer customer questions and handle complaints from the public concerning site operations.
- Direct and control traffic from scale house.
- Visually inspect and clean scale house area each day.
- Direct the public in proper dumping of recycling materials and restricted hazardous materials.
- May refuse entry to person not conforming with regulations.
- Enter yard PO's into MAS Accounting system for payment process.
- Clean office area in scale house and perform filing.
- Perform other job duties as assigned by Manager or Supervisor.

- Occasionally Stooping/Crouching, Reaching and Twisting/Turning.
- Frequently Handling and Grasping items in scale house such as money, binders and phone.
- Frequently Lifting/carrying or otherwise transporting a box up to 30 pounds.
- Continually answers phone calls, operates computer and scale.
- Must be able to work Monday through Friday and be available to work Saturdays.
