Rockford Area Habitat for Humanity ReStore is looking for a friendly, dependable Cashier who enjoys helping customers while supporting a mission that makes a lasting impact in our community. Every purchase made at the ReStore helps fund Habitat for Humanity's affordable homebuilding program, giving local families the opportunity to achieve safe, stable housing. Position Summary The Cashier serves as the first and last point of contact for ReStore customers, providing exceptional customer service while accurately processing sales transactions. This role also supports the sales floor, answers customer inquiries, and helps create a welcoming shopping experience that reflects Habitat for Humanity's mission. Essential Responsibilities Greet and assist customers in a friendly, professional, and welcoming manner. Accurately process customer purchases using the point-of-sale (POS) system. Handle cash, checks, and credit card transactions while following all ReStore cash-handling procedures. Answer incoming phone calls and provide helpful information to customers. Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked checkout area. Assist with merchandising and maintaining sales floor displays during slower business periods. Carefully handle and package customer purchases to prevent damage. Promote and positively represent the mission of Rockford Area Habitat for Humanity and educate customers on how ReStore purchases support local homebuilding efforts. Work collaboratively with ReStore management, staff, and volunteers. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Previous retail and/or cashier experience preferred. Basic math and cash-handling skills with strong attention to detail. Excellent customer service and communication skills. Friendly, dependable, and able to interact positively with customers, volunteers, and coworkers. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
