Job Description

The City of Rolling Meadows is seeking a dependable, detail-oriented and customer-focused individual to serve as a Cashier within the Finance Department. This position is the primary contact for residents, businesses and visitors at the front counter in City Hall and by phone. The Cashier is responsible for processing payments, maintaining accurate financial records, processing Real Estate Transfer Stamp transactions, and providing a high level of professional and courteous service to the public. Processes payments (cash, check, credit card) and maintains accurate financial records Balances and reconciles daily cash drawers and reports; identifies discrepancies Provides courteous, professional customer service in person and by phone Serves as front counter and phone receptionist for the Finance and Administration Departments Operates a multi-line phone system and directs calls to appropriate departments Processes Real Estate Transfer Stamp transactions Provides general information regarding City services, programs and procedures Assists with clerical tasks including the preparation of reports, correspondence and departmental documents Maintains confidentiality of sensitive financial and personal information Performs related duties as assigned Competencies Strong customer service skills and ability to communicate professionally with the public Cash handling and basic reconciliation skills Ability to remain organized, accurate and composed in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions Proficiency with computers, Microsoft Office and a willingness to learn municipal software (Tyler Munis ERP) Ability to operate standard office equipment (phones, scanners, copiers, calculators, etc.) Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment in handling sensitive information Ability to work effectively with residents, coworkers and other departments Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required Previous cashiering, clerical, customer service or public-facing office experience preferred Municipal government experience preferred but not required Work is primarily performed in an indoor office environment Frequent interaction with the public is required Position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, speaking, hearing and use of hands and fingers for computer and office equipment operation Occasional lifting and carrying of files, paper and other office materials is required Compensation & Benefits The budgeted salary range is $50,178 to $71,679 annually, depending on qualifications and experience. Schedule This position has a modified full-time work schedule, consisting of four (4) days per week from 7:45 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. and one (1) shortened workday from 7:45 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. The shortened workday will be scheduled on either Tuesday or Wednesday. Lunch periods on the shortened workday occur during working hours and are covered by other Finance staff to maintain uninterrupted front counter coverage.
