A Cashier handles monetary transactions with customers. Takes customer payment for a product or service, provides change as needed and receipts for transactions. Provides accurate accounting of cash register funds, and provides customer service.
Job Overview Join our retail team as a Cashier, where you'll be the friendly face that enhances the shopping experience for every customer. In this role, you'll handle transactions efficiently, provide exceptional customer service, and contribute to a welcoming store environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Open and/or close the store according to Ranchland Mini Mart procedures (cash counts, safe access, alarms, and security checks). Provide friendly, fast customer service; resolve routine customer issues and escalate concerns to management when needed. Operate POS/register accurately; process cash/credit/EBT (as applicable), refunds/voids per policy, and balance register drawers.
Support alcohol sales responsibly:
verify ID and refuse sales when required; follow store policy for restricted items. Process lottery sales and payouts per lottery terminal procedures; maintain secure handling of lottery inventory and cash.
Support hot food service:
follow food safety and temperature logs, product quality standards, and cleaning/sanitizing routines. Maintain a clean, stocked, and organized sales floor, restrooms, and backroom; ensure signage and price tags are accurate. Perform inventory tasks during the shift (receiving, stocking, facing, rotation/FIFO, out-of-stock notes, and damage/write-off documentation).
Monitor the fuel forecourt:
keep pumps, trash, and windshield stations tidy; respond to spills and safety issues per policy and training. Complete routine equipment checks (coffee, fountain, warmers/rollers, coolers/freezers temps, restrooms, and exterior lighting). Follow security and loss prevention practices; watch for suspicious activity and respond to incidents using the store safety plan. Communicate shift status to management (sales/shortages, maintenance issues, customer incidents, staffing problems, and supply needs). Qualifications and Skills High school diploma or equivalent preferred. 1+ year retail or convenience store experience preferred; prior key-holder or leadership experience a plus. Strong customer service and communication skills Ability to follow procedures for cash handling, alcohol sales, lottery transactions, and food safety. Basic math skills and comfort with POS systems. Reliable attendance and punctuality; ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled. Physical Requirements Stand and walk for extended periods; frequent bending, reaching, and lifting. Lift up to 40 lbs (occasionally more with assistance) for cases, supplies, and stocking. Work in varying temperatures (coolers/freezers; outdoor forecourt) and around food service equipment. Work Environment and Expectations This position works in a fast-paced convenience store environment with fuel service and hot food preparation. Employees must maintain professional conduct, follow all store policies and safety procedures, and help create a positive, team-oriented workplace.
