Posting Details Dickinson College is a premier four-year residential liberal arts institution chartered in 1783 and widely recognized as a leader in global and sustainability education. Position Department Dining Services - Dining Hall Job Summary/Basic Function The primary purpose of a Door Checker is to energetically greet each guest passing through the Dining Hall doors, while processing their payment, whether it be swiping a Dickinson ID card or running a credit card. The Door Checker should make every effort to positively engage the guest with light conversation while facilitating the flow of customers through the door. Essential Functions Greet guests with a positive attitude. Collect payment from each guest via ID swipe or credit card. Ability to complete total sales sheet accurately. Ability to sit or stand in place for up to 4 hours at a time and ability to move frequently in between service cleaning windows, tables, and floors. Must be able to work up to 29 hours a week. Must be flexible in work scheduling. Evenings and weekends required. Must be willing to work several holiday dinners and seasonal outdoor picnics throughout the academic year. These events occur approximately 2- 3 per semester. Must be willing to work the buffet serving lines for these events, when needed, by standing in place near the buffet to help re-stock items for up to 3 hours at a time.
Emergency Response Designation:
This position is designated as "emergency response personnel." "Emergency response personnel" are required to report to work when the college is delayed or closed. "Emergency response personnel" may be called in at any time of day to respond to weather and / or other types of emergencies as needed. Â
Preferred Qualifications:
High School diploma or GED Retail operations, specifically use of a cash register and credit card machine. Customer service experience will substitute for a high school diploma or GED.
Physical Demands:
Must be able to sit for 4 hour periods and swipe student ID's through our access control system reader.
Hours:
Flexible schedule to include evenings and weekends, 3-6 hours per day, 12-29 hours per week.
