Job Description
Gift Shop & Concession Stand Cashier Friends of Ellen Trout Zoo is hiring a full-time Gift Shop & Concession Stand Cashier to join our guest services team. This position plays an important role in creating a welcoming experience for zoo visitors by assisting guests in the gift shop, operating the concession stand, handling sales transactions, and helping keep guest areas clean, stocked, and organized. The ideal candidate is dependable, friendly, comfortable working with the public, and able to stay organized in a busy, family-friendly environment. Responsibilities Greet zoo guests in a friendly and professional manner Operate the cash register and process cash, card, and other approved transactions Assist guests with gift shop purchases, merchandise questions, and general zoo information Prepare and serve concession items according to established procedures Keep the gift shop and concession areas clean, stocked, and organized Restock merchandise, snacks, drinks, and supplies as needed Maintain clean counters, displays, dining areas, and workspaces Assist with opening and closing duties as scheduled Follow food safety, sanitation, and cash-handling procedures Help create a positive guest experience during regular zoo hours and special events Perform other related duties as assigned Qualifications Previous cashier, retail, food service, or customer service experience preferred Current Food Handler's Certificate required, or ability to obtain one before starting Friendly, dependable, and professional Comfortable working with children, families, and the general public Able to stand for extended periods of time Able to lift and carry merchandise, supplies, and concession items as needed Able to work in a fast-paced environment Must be available to work weekends, holidays, and special events as scheduled Must be able to follow instructions and work as part of a team Schedule This is a full-time position. Weekend availability is required. Schedule may vary based on zoo hours, staffing needs, and special events. Work Environment This position works in both the zoo gift shop and concession stand. The role involves frequent guest interaction, standing for long periods, handling merchandise and food items, and working during busy zoo days and events.
