Job Description

The Treasurer is a locally elected constitutional officer whose duties are mandated by the Code of Virginia and local ordinances. The Treasurer is elected at-large for a four-year term and provides direct service to all Loudoun residents and businesses. The principal functions of the Treasurer's Office include billing and collecting taxes for real and personal property, business licenses, and other services as specified by the Code of Virginia and local ordinances; acting as primary depository of revenue for all County agencies, including Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS); investing and safeguarding County funds; reconciling County funds to bank and investment accounts; and providing outstanding customer service to taxpayers, County staff, and LCPS staff. The Loudoun County Treasurer's Office is seeking qualified applicants for a Cashier I position to work as a front-line cashier in the Leesburg Treasurer's Office. While the primary duty location is Leesburg, the selected candidate may be required to provide coverage at the Sterling location based on operational and business needs. The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge of cashiering and administrative support operations, including verifying, receiving, and processing tax payments; collecting departmental revenues; responding to questions regarding tax bills, tax deadlines, County tax rates, and general County governmental information; and providing courteous and timely customer service to citizens, vendors, County staff, and visitors. This position performs a full range of office and administrative support functions, including data entry; maintaining records and files; preparing and proofreading documents; processing mail; responding to phone and email inquiries; operating integrated cashier systems; balancing cash drawers; and utilizing Oracle and Microsoft Office applications. The selected candidate must demonstrate strong communication and organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain confidentiality, and work independently with limited supervision. Hiring salary will be commensurate with experience. Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma and two (2) years of related experience, including cash handling.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience using integrated cashiering systems.
  • Experience balancing cash drawers and processing monetary transactions.
  • Experience working in local government, banking, financial services, or high-volume customer service environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English encouraged.
Employment is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a criminal background and credit check. Normal working hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30AM to 5:00PM with mandatory overtime during tax deadlines.
