Sensitive Position No Job Description Central Virginia Community College is located in Lynchburg, Virginia, in view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. CVCC is a comprehensive two-year institution of higher education with an enrollment of approximately 5,000 students in occupational/technical programs and university-parallel/college transfer programs. The goal of the Cashier is to provide high touch, high quality Academic and Administrative Services in the College's Business Office. The Cashier will support and demonstrate Business Office efforts that fulfill the strategic goals of the College's mission and service area. Serves as primary point of contact to students and college customers in the office, by phone, or electronically. The cashier will take tuition payments and post to the student or payer's appropriate account. Work closely with team members or through individual efforts, reconcile cash, prepare deposits and maintain accurate files by running daily report and batches from various accounting systems. Collaborate with faculty, staff, administrators and suppliers to respond to student needs and proactively resolve issues in a timely manner using effective problem resolution skills. Refer students and/or customers to appropriate college personnel and/or agency as needed. Professionally promote college before internal and external constituencies to support College's strategic goal and vision. Special Assignments May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor. KSA's/Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent certifications, education, training and/or experience. Work history with financial services, banking, accounting and/or bookkeeping principles and practices. Experience with cash handling, deposits. Experience providing services to a diverse population. Excellent customer service skills, as well as excellent oral and written communication. Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks in a stressful environment. Effectively utilize Microsoft Office with specific emphasis on Microsoft Excel. Additional Considerations Associate's degree in accounting or business. Experience in a higher education, business office setting. Experience with PeopleSoft or similar student information system Working knowledge (with guidance) of system enhancements, software upgrades and project implementation. Intermediate to advanced Microsoft office including, but not limited to Excel, mail merges and other database management.
