Job Description

The Pulaski County Public Safety Department is seeking to fill a full-time Assistant Chief of EMS - Operations (AC 9-1) position. As a key member of the Pulaski County Public Safety Department, the Assistant Chief of EMS plays a critical role in overseeing the daily operations of the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) department. This position supervises Field Captains, Lieutenants, Field staff manages agency operations and reports to the Chief of EMS.
Important Note:
Please be advised that the anticipated start date for this position is January 1, 2026. Work hours are primarily weekdays, but occasionally include nights, weekends, holidays, and Special Events. The starting salary for this position is $80,000+ and is commensurate upon education and experience.
Educational Requirements:
The ideal candidate will possess a strong educational and experiential background, including certification as a paramedic by the Virginia Office of EMS and certification in ICS 100, 200, 300, 700, and 800. Current or previous experience as a Virginia Education Coordinator is preferred, as is current or previous instructor certifications in EMS courses. A minimum of an Associate's degree in a related field or extensive comparable experience is required, with a Bachelor's degree preferred. Additionally, a minimum of eight (8) years of supervisory experience is required, with grant writing experience being a desirable asset. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and other applications, is also required.
