About Hudson Catskill Housing Coalition The Hudson Catskill Housing Coalition (HCHC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing housing justice, community empowerment, civic engagement, and economic opportunity throughout the Hudson Valley. HCHC works to ensure that all residents have access to safe, affordable housing and the information, resources, and advocacy needed to strengthen their communities. Position Summary The Hudson Catskill Housing Coalition is seeking enthusiastic and community-oriented individuals to serve as Part-Time Community Door Canvassers. Canvassers will conduct face-to-face outreach by visiting neighborhoods and engaging residents in conversations about issues that directly impact their lives and communities.
Primary outreach topics include:
New York's Clean Slate Act Housing rights and tenant protections Voter education and voting rights Community resources and services Civic participation and community advocacy Canvassers play a vital role in building relationships, educating residents, gathering feedback, and connecting community members with information and resources that support housing stability and civic engagement. Essential Responsibilities Conduct door-to-door outreach in assigned neighborhoods and communities. Engage residents in respectful, informative, and meaningful conversations. Educate community members about New York's Clean Slate Act and opportunities for eligible individuals. Provide information regarding tenant rights, fair housing protections, eviction prevention resources, and housing-related programs. Share voter education materials and information about voting rights and civic participation. Distribute flyers, surveys, resource guides, and educational materials. Collect community feedback, concerns, and stories to help inform HCHC advocacy efforts. Accurately document outreach activities and resident interactions. Attend required trainings, staff meetings, and campaign briefings. Meet outreach and engagement goals established by the organization. Represent Hudson Catskill Housing Coalition professionally and positively in the community. Qualifications High school diploma or GED preferred. Experience in community outreach, canvassing, organizing, advocacy, customer service, education, or public engagement is a plus. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to build rapport with people from diverse backgrounds. Commitment to housing justice, civic engagement, and community empowerment. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Reliable transportation preferred. Ability to use a smartphone or tablet for data collection and reporting. Bilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply. Preferred Knowledge Training will be provided, but familiarity with any of the following is helpful: New York Clean Slate Act Tenant rights and housing protections Fair housing laws Voter rights and voter engagement Community organizing and grassroots outreach Hudson Valley communities and local resources Physical Requirements Ability to walk for extended periods throughout neighborhoods. Ability to climb stairs and navigate residential areas. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to carry outreach materials weighing up to 20 pounds. Schedule Flexible part-time schedule. Evening and weekend shifts may be required. Approximately 20 hours per week. Compensation and Benefits Competitive hourly wage. Paid training.
