English/Spanish We are hiring Voter Registration Canvassers to support a voter registration program in Brownsville, Texas. Canvassers will speak with community members, help eligible Texans complete voter registration applications, and make sure forms are reviewed and handled according to Texas requirements. This is a public-facing role for someone who is outgoing, reliable, detail-oriented, and comfortable talking with people in neighborhoods, community spaces, and other approved outreach locations. Canvassers will receive program training before completing the county Volunteer Deputy Registrar appointment process. Responsibilities Speak with community members about voter registration. Help eligible Texans complete voter registration applications. Review applications for completeness and accuracy. Follow all Texas voter registration rules and program procedures. Safely handle and return completed forms according to Texas deadlines and supervisor instructions. Track daily outreach activity and submit end-of-day reports. Communicate with supervisors about progress, questions, and issues in the field. Represent the program professionally and respectfully. Qualifications Bilingual English/Spanish preferred. Strong communication and people skills. Comfortable approaching and speaking with members of the public. Reliable, punctual, and able to follow detailed instructions. Strong attention to detail. Able to work outdoors and walk or stand for extended periods. Prior canvassing, campaign, voter registration, nonprofit, or community outreach experience is helpful but not required. Requirements Must be eligible to work in the United States. Must have reliable transportation. Must have a working cellphone with access to apps. Must have flexible availability of at least 12 hours per week. Must complete required program training before beginning field work. Must be able to meet Texas Volunteer Deputy Registrar eligibility requirements, including: Be at least 18 years old. Be a United States citizen. Be a resident of the State of Texas. Not have been determined by a final judgment of a court exercising probate jurisdiction to be: Totally mentally incapacitated; or Partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote. Never have been convicted of failing to deliver a voter registration application to a voter registrar. Not have been finally convicted of a felony, or, if convicted, must have: Fully discharged the sentence, including any term of incarceration, parole, or supervision, or completed a period of probation ordered by any court; or Been pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disability to vote. Not have been finally convicted of identity theft under Section 32.51 of the Texas Penal Code. Must follow all Texas voter registration, form-handling, and submission requirements.
