Political & Organizing Director Pay:
$25 an hour About the Texas Organizing Project (TOP) The mission of the Texas Organizing Project is to bring together Black and Latino Texans so that, together, we can fight for real change by organizing our neighborhoods, investing our time and energy in causes relevant to our communities, and collectively taking ownership of TOP's agenda, strategy, and direction. With a seasoned, committed organizing staff, a diverse membership, and leaders from all walks of life, TOP has already made a huge impact and is positioned to continue growing. Build Power Engage Communities Champion Progressive Policy Shift Narratives About the Position TOP Community Outreach & Survey Canvasser The TOP Community Canvasser program is a transformative, year-round civic engagement initiative designed to amplify community voices and shift the conversation around what Texans actually need. By centering the lived experiences of residents in Texas's most critical areas, this program builds political power from the ground up, starting with listening. Canvassers are at the heart of this effort, going directly into neighborhoods to collect surveys, gather community input, and ensure that the voices of everyday Texans shape our strategy, our priorities, and our work. Canvassers will lead local survey collection drives, host community conversations and feedback events, and build relationships with organizational partners to expand our reach. Canvassers are responsible for ensuring that community members are heard, meeting neighbors where they are, gathering meaningful data on their concerns and priorities, and translating that feedback into actionable insight for the program. This is a highly relational role that requires excellent people skills, a genuine curiosity about community members' lives, and a deep commitment to ensuring the most underrepresented voices in Texas are the loudest in the room. If you believe that good organizing starts with listening, this role is for you. Key Responsibilities Manage and report on all survey activity, canvasser contacts, and outreach in VAN and other tracking systems, ensuring accurate and timely data entry. Use collected survey data to evaluate community priorities, adjust outreach strategies, and report meaningful findings back to program leadership. Work collaboratively with TOP staff to align survey questions and outreach goals with real community needs. Represent the organization in local community spaces, ensuring every interaction reflects our commitment to listening first. Build strong, trusting relationships with volunteer leaders who are rooted in the community and committed to hearing from their neighbors. Host regular community events, such as block parties, neighborhood gatherings, and mutual aid events, that create natural opportunities for survey collection and community listening. Meet daily and weekly metrics Qualifications At least 2 years of organizing experience, preferably in electoral, community, or issue-based campaigns. Demonstrated ability to recruit, train, and manage volunteers or grassroots leaders. Strong relational and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and develop leaders. Experience working with voter contact tools (VAN, miniVAN, etc.) preferred. Strong commitment to racial, economic, and gender justice and building multiracial working-class power. Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed. Access to reliable transportation and willingness to travel within the assigned geography. Spanish fluency is highly preferredPay:
