Job Description
What to Expect Join us and build the 3D experiences that bring Tesla's energy products to life. We're looking for creative 3D generalists to join our team and help shape how millions of Tesla Solar and Powerwall owners understand and interact with their energy systems through the Tesla app. You'll join the Tesla App Energy Team to build real-time 3D visualizations and vehicle integrations using Blender, Unreal Engine, and React Native. We produce Tesla Recharged, our visual-heavy end-of-year personalized data story that helps users understand the value of their energy system, and we create assets for special marketing campaigns. On the product side, we build 3D experiences that use the real world as input — for example, the home screen of the app for Solar and Powerwall draws wires on a 3D home to show the flow of power, like Solar exporting to the grid. The Tesla App is used by everyone who interacts with Tesla products — from Solar and Powerwall owners managing their home energy systems to drivers monitoring their vehicles. What You'll Do Collaborate in cross-functional design sessions with design and product management teams Collaborate with the design team to design and model 3D assets from loose design guidance and reference material to realize a shippable product vision Build performant real-time 3D models in Blender for mobile platforms — simplifying complex CAD data, re-topologizing, UV mapping, light baking, and efficient surfacing Write shaders and integrate your work into Unreal Engine using Blueprints and C++, enabling integration into the Tesla App React Native project Create marketing assets and rendered videos for campaigns, including our end-of-year story campaign, Tesla Recharged — rendering and editing video content as part of your production pipeline Own a portion of the Tesla app and care about its overall quality and performance, write documentation, and review work contributed by team members building in your space Obsess over delivering beautiful, intuitive, and powerful experiences for our users Use first principles thinking to simplify and optimize processes and practices, for the purpose of providing better experiences for customers, faster What You'll Bring Degree in Design, Computer Science, or equivalent experience Strong portfolio demonstrating your versatility and ability to deliver in the 3D technical and artistic domain, from photorealistic to vibrant and stylized You're a 3D generalist who can model, texture, write shaders, and integrate and script in a 3D engine Experience in modeling and texturing in Blender for real-time 3D use Experience with Unreal Engine, including Blueprints and some C++ Proficiency in Figma and Adobe Creative Cloud tools (Photoshop, After Effects, Premiere, Media Encoder) An eye for design trends, creative sensibility, and a sense of style, polish, and taste Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment Compensation and Benefits Benefits Along with competitive pay, as a full-time Tesla employee, you are eligible for the following benefits at day 1 of hire: Medical plans > plan options with $0 payroll deduction Family-building, fertility, adoption and surrogacy benefits Dental (including orthodontic coverage) and vision plans, both have options with a $0 paycheck contribution Company Paid (Health Savings Accounts) HSA Contribution when enrolled in the High-Deductible medical plan with HSA Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) 401(k) with employer match, Employee Stock Purchase Plans, and other financial benefits Company paid Basic Life, AD&D Short-term and long-term disability insurance (90 day waiting period) Employee Assistance Program Sick and Vacation time (Flex time for salary positions, Accrued hours for Hourly positions), and Paid Holidays Back-up childcare and parenting support resources Voluntary benefits to include: critical illness, hospital indemnity, accident insurance, theft & legal services, and pet insurance Weight Loss and Tobacco Cessation Programs Tesla Babies program Commuter benefits Employee discounts and perks program Expected Compensation $140,000 - $252,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
