JOB SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE
The Energy Account Manager is the primary sales and relationship management resource for CBIA Energy Connections' large electricity and natural gas customer accounts. Operating within Connecticut's deregulated energy market, this role is responsible for managing the full contract lifecycle, from pricing and procurement through execution and renewal, for individually contracted (non-aggregation) member accounts. The position combines consultative selling, energy market expertise, and disciplined account management to deliver competitive rates and exceptional service to CBIA's member companies.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Manage large-account sales and renewals: Conduct new and renewal electricity and natural gas sales for individually contracted CBIA member accounts. Build and execute annual renewal plans based on contract expiration calendars to maximize retention and revenue.
Deliver consultative energy procurement:
Analyze customer utility invoices and usage/load profiles to develop tailored pricing options (fixed, index, block, and blended structures). Present clear, plain-language recommendations that help members make informed procurement decisions.
Execute pricing and contract processes:
Solicit and compare supplier bids, assemble customer-facing pricing proposals, and coordinate contract execution. Evaluate contractual terms, risk provisions, and renewal implications to protect member interests.
Provide ongoing account service:
Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned accounts. Respond to customer inquiries related to energy supply agreements, billing discrepancies, and contract questions with urgency and professionalism.
Monitor energy markets:
Track wholesale and retail electricity and natural gas market trends. Translate market intelligence into timely customer communications and proactive renewal or procurement recommendations.
Maintain CRM discipline:
Keep CRM pipeline, renewal calendars, activity logs, and account records current. Generate and analyze management reports to identify trends, and assist in forecasting renewals.
Support renewable energy initiatives:
Develop leads and facilitate consultations for solar, battery storage, and renewable energy certificate (REC) opportunities as part of Energy Connections' evolving product suite. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and execute plans to grow the individually contracted book of business through prospecting, cross-selling, and member engagement. Collaborate with team members to ensure seamless handoffs and consistent a member experience. Represent Energy Connections at CBIA events, industry conferences, and member-facing engagements. Participate in special projects and program improvement initiatives as directed. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Communication Skills — Ability to listen, write, and speak effectively. Able to translate complex energy concepts into clear, plain-language guidance for business customers. Attention to detail is required.
Analytical / Pricing
Skills — Ability to analyze utility invoices and usage data, seek and compare multiple supplier pricing options, and assemble pricing models designed to present competitive options to customers. Contract Evaluation — Ability to assess and advise on contractual differences, risk terms, and renewal implications across supplier agreements.
Computer / Technical
Literacy — Proficiency with CRMs and Microsoft 365 (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook). Ability to manage workflows, reporting, and pipeline tracking within a CRM system. Planning & Prioritization — Ability to manage multiple assignments, set priorities, and adapt to changing conditions and work assignments while meeting deadlines. Collaboration — Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team, including coordination with suppliers, internal teammates, and CBIA member companies.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 3-5
years of energy sales experience (electricity and/or natural gas), utilizing a consultative approach for new sales and contract renewals in a deregulated market. Demonstrated experience analyzing utility invoices, assembling pricing options, processing tax exemptions and managing contract lifecycles for commercial and industrial customers. Proficiency with CRM, energy management systems and Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
Preferred:
Experience in a membership-based, aggregation, or association energy program.
Preferred:
Familiarity with New England retail energy dynamics and regulatory environment.
Preferred:
Knowledge of renewable energy products (solar, battery storage, RECs).
Preferred:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
Pay:
$80,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
