Job Description

Chief Growth and Membership Officer (CGO) The Chief Growth Officer (CGO) is the senior executive responsible for driving sustained membership growth and expanding the reach, relevance, and impact of Northern Star Scouting. This role holds enterprise-wide accountability for youth recruitment, volunteer engagement, retention, and community expansion across all programs and geographies. The CGO ensures that growth is not a siloed function, but a coordinated, organization-wide priority supported by clear metrics, modern systems, and aligned execution. Key Accountabilities Membership Growth:
Deliver sustained year-over-year increases in youth participation and volunteer leadership
Retention & Experience:
Improve member engagement and long-term retention across programs
Market Expansion:
Grow presence in new and underrepresented communities
Marketing & Brand:
Lead integrated marketing strategies that increase awareness, relevance, and conversion
Data & Performance:
Implement dashboards, KPIs, and analytics to track and improve outcomes
Cross-Functional Alignment:
Ensure field, program, marketing, and development efforts are coordinated and accountable Measures of Success Annual membership growth across programs and target markets Improved retention rates and member satisfaction Increased volunteer recruitment and unit sustainability Higher conversion rates from prospect to registered member Expanded reach in diverse and underserved communities Improved cost-efficiency and return on growth investments Leadership Role Reports to the CEO/Scout Executive and serves on the senior leadership team Directly leads Marketing, Field Services/Registration, and Field Directors Provides enterprise-wide leadership for growth strategy, systems, and accountability Builds a high-performance, data-driven culture with a strong focus on results and innovation First-Year Priorities Launch a 3-year growth strategy with clear targets and accountability Implement a council-wide performance dashboard and growth metrics Strengthen recruitment and onboarding systems across all districts Enhance digital marketing, CRM utilization, and lead management Develop new community partnerships and pilot market expansion initiatives Align all functions around shared growth goals and execution standards Profile of the Ideal Candidate Proven executive leader with a track record of delivering measurable growth Strong strategic thinker with ability to drive disciplined execution Experienced in marketing, sales, membership, or business development Data-driven, collaborative, and skilled at leading organizational change Deep commitment to youth development and the mission of Scouting Join us and Make a Difference in the Lives of Youth in Our Communities!
