Hours will vary based on planned events, store projects, merchandising floor moves, and business needs. About JapanLA JapanLA is a fun and unique retail store specializing in kawaii (cute) character goods, collectibles, apparel, accessories, and gifts from brands such as Hello Kitty, Rilakkuma, Sonny Angel, Smiski, tokidoki, Miffy, Pusheen, and more. We are looking for an energetic, organized, and detail-oriented team member to join our retail staff. Position Overview The Merchandiser & Sales Associate is responsible for maintaining an exciting and visually appealing shopping experience while providing excellent customer service. This role combines merchandising, inventory support, and retail sales responsibilities. Responsibilities Merchandising Create and maintain attractive product displays throughout the store Restock merchandise and ensure shelves remain full and organized Execute floor moves, seasonal displays, and promotional setups Organize backstock and maintain inventory accuracy Ensure merchandise is properly priced and displayed Assist with receiving and processing new inventory shipments Keep the store clean, organized, and visually appealing Sales & Customer Service Greet customers and provide a friendly, welcoming shopping experience Assist customers with product recommendations and questions Operate the point-of-sale system and process transactions accurately Help customers locate products and complete purchases Promote current events, promotions, and new product releases Maintain product knowledge across a variety of brands and collections Support store events, launches, and special promotions Qualifications At least 1 year retail and/or customer service experience Strong attention to detail and organizational skills Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment Friendly, outgoing personality with strong customer service skills Ability to lift and move boxes up to 30 pounds Comfortable standing, walking, and merchandising for extended periods Reliable, punctual, and flexible with scheduling Interest in Japanese pop culture, character brands, collectibles, or toys is a plus What We're Looking For Someone who enjoys creating visually appealing displays A team player who is proactive and takes initiative A positive attitude and willingness to help wherever needed Someone who enjoys interacting with customers and creating memorable experiences Benefits Employee discount Flexible scheduling Opportunity to work with unique brands and products Fun and creative work environment Opportunities to assist with special events, launches, and community activities If you love retail, merchandising, customer service, and kawaii culture, we'd love to hear from you!
