Job Description

Merchandise Manager Position Overview The Ice Flyers are seeking a highly organized, proactive, and revenue-driven Merchandise Manager to oversee all merchandise operations, inventory systems, online sales fulfillment, fundraising support, and merchandise-related event coordination. This role is responsible for managing the organization's merchandise department across arena retail operations, Shopify fulfillment, specialty merchandise programs, fundraising support, promotional merchandise planning, and event coordination. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced sports environment, can manage multiple operational systems simultaneously, and takes pride in building a professional, organized, and fan-focused merchandise operation. The Merchandise Manager plays a major role in driving fan engagement, merchandise revenue, operational efficiency, and brand visibility for the organization. Primary Responsibilities Oversee all day-to-day merchandise operations across arena retail, online sales, specialty inventory, and game-day operations Maintain accurate inventory systems, audits, reporting, product organization, and merchandise storage standards Manage Shopify storefront operations including online fulfillment, promotions, customer service, and product launches Coordinate merchandise ordering, vendor communication, artwork approvals, product development, and inventory replenishment Develop revenue-generating merchandise strategies including promotions, limited drops, seasonal campaigns, and specialty collections Analyze sales trends, pricing strategies, inventory performance, and merchandising opportunities to maximize revenue Coordinate merchandise support for events, sponsor activations, appearances, auctions, raffles, and fundraising initiatives Manage specialty merchandise and collectible inventory including signed memorabilia, specialty jerseys, and limited-edition products Support game-day merchandise operations, fulfillment logistics, and promotional activations during events Maintain accurate financial documentation, spreadsheets, invoices, operational records, and merchandise reporting systems Assist leadership with merchandise planning, budgeting, forecasting, and operational strategy Maintain professional department standards while ensuring merchandise areas remain organized, efficient, and fan-focused Qualifications Strong attention to detail and accountability Ability to problem-solve and operate proactively Strong organizational and multitasking skills Experience with inventory systems, retail operations, or merchandise management preferred Experience with Shopify or e-commerce platforms preferred Ability to work in a fast-paced sports and entertainment environment Strong communication and customer service skills Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays during the hockey season Experience coordinating events and promotions is a plus Knowledge of sports merchandise operations is preferred Ability to lift and move merchandise inventory as needed Preferred Characteristics The ideal candidate is: Organized and detail-oriented Self-motivated and proactive Professional under pressure Creative with merchandise and promotional ideas Passionate about fan engagement and customer experience Comfortable balancing operational and fan-facing responsibilities Able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously Team-oriented with a positive attitude Work Environment This position operates in a combination of: office environments arena environments storage and inventory areas event and arena settings game-day operations The schedule varies throughout the year based on operational periods including offseason planning, preseason preparation, regular season operations, playoffs, and special events. Seasonal Operational Focus The Merchandise Manager will oversee operational planning throughout: offseason inventory audits and product development preseason merchandise preparation season launch planning peak season merchandise campaigns playoff and specialty merchandise initiatives postseason operational resets and evaluations Additional Expectations Maintain professional appearance and department standards Respond quickly to operational and leadership needs Maintain accurate records and reporting systems Stay proactive with merchandise planning and inventory management Support broader organizational initiatives when needed Perform additional duties as assigned Compensation & Benefits Compensation will be based on experience and qualifications.
