Job Description
Zabar's is seeking an experienced Housewares Buying & Merchandising Manager to lead and elevate our iconic second-floor mezzanine department. If you have a proven background in houseware buying, vendor negotiations, and merchandising strategy. This is your chance to revitalize a legacy department and make it a destination. About the Role You will lead all aspects of the mezzanine floor, focusing on product selection, vendor management, and sales growth. You'll oversee daily operations, lead a seasoned team, and ensure the department thrives through strategic buying decisions and compelling merchandising. We are looking for someone who can increase visibility, curate an exceptional product assortment, and position houseware as a standout part of Zabar's experience. Key Responsibilities Lead and coach a long-tenured team while cultivating a culture of excellence Spearhead product selection and buying for the housewares department, ensuring a unique, profitable mix Negotiate pricing, terms, and partnerships directly with vendors to optimize margins Drive sales growth by aligning product mix with customer demand and current trends Develop and execute compelling promotions that bring customers in and maintain profitability Analyze sales performance data and adjust strategies accordingly Maintain high standards of visual merchandising and inventory control Collaborate with leadership to align buying and merchandising goals with overall store performance What We're Looking For 3-5 years of experience managing housewares or home goods, with a focus on buying and vendor negotiations Proven track record of increasing sales through strategic product selection and merchandising Strong vendor negotiation skills, with experience securing optimal pricing and terms Experience in developing store associates and leading teams through change Strong understanding of margins, pricing, and overall department profitability Comfortable with data analysis and Microsoft Office tools A proactive, hands-on leader who thrives on both strategy and execution Why Join Zabar's Zabar's is a New York institution known for quality, tradition, and exceptional customer experience.
