Real Estate Valuation Specialist

Qualifications Experience Position Summary:

The Real Estate Valuation Specialist is responsible for ensuring the independence, accuracy, and regulatory compliance of all real estate collateral valuations utilized by the Bank. This role performs technical reviews of third-party appraisals and evaluations, prepares internal evaluations for qualifying transactions, and supports sound credit decisioning in accordance with Interagency Appraisal and Evaluation Guidelines and applicable regulatory standards. The position plays a key role in maintaining appraisal program integrity, mitigating collateral risk, and supporting examiner readiness.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Appraisal and Evaluation Review +Perform independent technical reviews of residential, commercial, and agricultural real estate appraisals to ensure: Compliance with USPAP and Interagency Appraisal and Evaluation Guidelines Appropriate methodology, comparable selection, and valuation conclusions Logical consistency and support for assumptions and adjustments +Identify deficiencies, inconsistencies, or unsupported conclusions and communicate required revisions to vendors or internal stakeholders +Document review conclusions in standardized appraisal review templates suitable for examiner review 2. Internal Evaluations & Valuations +Prepare internal evaluations for transactions qualifying under evaluation thresholds, including: Renewals, refinances, and subsequent transactions where permitted Lower-risk or exempt transactions in accordance with policy +Develop credible market value conclusions using: Comparable sales analysis Income capitalization approaches (when applicable) Market and rent data analysis +Ensure all internal evaluations meet policy content, regulatory content and independence requirements 3. Vendor and Appraiser Management Support +Assist in maintaining an approved appraiser list, including: Support vendor performance monitoring, including timeliness and quality control 4. Quality Control & Reporting +Track and report appraisal deficiencies, trends, and vendor performance metrics +Assist in developing and maintaining appraisal review checklists, templates, and procedures +Support periodic internal reviews of the appraisal program 5. Cross-Functional Support +Partner with lending, credit underwriting, and loan operations teams to: Clarify valuation requirements Ensure appropriate collateral support for credit decisions Qualifications Experience 3-7 years of experience in one or more of the following: Real estate sales Real estate appraisal Appraisal review Commercial or residential credit underwriting Collateral risk management Technical Knowledge + Strong understanding of: Interagency Appraisal and Evaluation Guidelines USPAP standards Real estate valuation methodologies (sales comparison, income, cost approach) +Familiarity with: Commercial and residential property types Skills and Competencies Strong analytical and critical thinking skills High attention to detail with ability to identify valuation risk Clear and professional written communication (examiner-ready documentation) Ability to challenge assumptions and provide independent conclusions Proficiency in Excel and appraisal/valuation platforms Strong organizational and time management skills
