PROGRAM STATEMENT

The Mission Market generates financial support for Muncie Mission Ministries by giving the community a meaningful way to care for people experiencing homelessness through the donation and purchase of gently used items, with 100% of net proceeds funding the Mission's ministry and services.

POSITION SUMMARY

Works under the direction of the Retail Management team in carrying out all retail operations in the store, including, but not limited to, creating a Christ-centered environment, register operations, customer service, store appearance and displays, and employee interactions.

• Must be in agreement with the philosophy, policies, and mission statement of the ministry, and be able to view this as a team ministry with a servant's heart.
• Must be dependable, consistently at work on time, and able to work independently.
• Must interact professionally with guests, volunteers, and the general public and be able to prioritize work activities, use time wisely, and communicate effectively - both verbally and written form.

Essential Functions:

• Assist the Retail Management team in the building of the team, by being an example of Christ to all staff, donors, and customers.
• Provide a friendly and joyful welcoming to all customers when they enter the store and throughout their shopping experience.
• Assist the Retail Management team in register transactions including handling of cash and credit card payments and any non-cash purchases, in order to ensure the accuracy and security of all transactions.
• Work with the Retail Management team to establish and maintain customer service standards in order to ensure compliance with the company mission statement and to provide a pleasant shopping experience for each customer.
• Work with store staff in maintaining the physical appearance of the store on every shift, including, but not limited to: communicating and restocking of janitorial and restroom supplies, removing safety hazards, picking up store merchandise and restoring to proper place, cleaning parking lot, sidewalks, windows and doors, store floors, break room(s), restrooms, and other public areas to ensure the safety and health of customers and employees.

• Maintain and clean out fitting rooms on a regular basis.
• Assist store staff in stocking store shelves and clothing racks in order to provide customers with maximum shopping opportunities.
• Under the direction of the Retail Management team, assist store staff, as needed, to set up or change store displays in order to provide a pleasant shopping environment and to entice customers to shop new areas or items within the store.
• Communicate, daily, all events related to customer service issues or problems, register mistakes, employee issues or accidents, and general store operations to the manager, in order to ensure all issues are handled properly and in accordance with company policies and procedures.
• Must be capable of operating the store in the manager's absence.
• Be willing to float to any retail department as requested by Store Manager/Director of Retail Operations.
• Willing to be flexible with schedule to fill in for absence of other store personnel.
• Attend as required, or requested, all training events provided by the company and all store meetings as scheduled by the manager in order to keep current on any policy changes, new procedures, and other information essential to performing the job.
• Use time keeping system properly.
• All other duties assigned by management.

Required Education/Experience/Skills:

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• Experience in retail sales and/or customer service.
• Must be a people person with a pleasant and willing attitude and have a servant's heart.
• Excellent communication skills (both oral and written) with an excellent command of the English language.
• Excellent math and money handling skills.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written or oral form.
• Ability to operate a cash register and credit card machine.
• Ability to operate general office machines, copier, fax, printers, and scanners.
• Must be detail-oriented and have solid organizational skills.
• Must be a problem solver and be able to work with a minimum of supervision and take initiative.
• Excellent time management skills.
• Must possess a demonstrable level of skill and proficiency in planning so to meet established goals. Physical Demands
• Must be able to lift/carry up to 25 pounds.
• Must be able to stand up to 100% of a standard workday.
• Must be able to lift, bend, and climb stairs.
• Must be able to use hands to perform required duties up to 100% of a standard workday.
• Talk or hear - as needed throughout a standard workday.

Moderate physical activity. Depending on location, this position may require frequent strenuous activity. Able to lift at least 25 pounds. Use hands to lift, sort, clean, and organize throughout standard workday. Depending on location, this position may work in a warehouse setting with some outdoor exposure throughout the workday. Required to wear a name badge. Vision Requirements

Background Investigation and Drug Testing:

After a "conditional offer of employment" is made, the individual must pass a criminal background investigation. Muncie Mission Ministries may request the successful applicant to submit to and pass a drug and /or alcohol test. This drug and/or alcohol testing may occur any time after the applicant receives a conditional offer of employment. All employees must sign and adhere to MMM Substance Abuse policy and remain free from addiction to drugs and/or alcohol.

Hours:

Monday through Saturday, hours arranged by the Director of Retail Operations and/or the Store Manager and approved by the President/CEO. Mission Market Retail Associate is an hourly - at will position.
