Job Description
Job Overview We are seeking a Operations & Sales Associate to join our retail team! In this role, you will be the heartbeat of our store, blending exceptional customer service with efficient sales operations. Duties Greet customers warmly, provide product information, and assist with product demos to enhance their shopping experience Operate the cash register (POS system), handle retail sales transactions accurately, and manage cash drawer handling with integrity Upsell products by identifying customer needs and recommending additional items to maximize sales opportunities Stock shelves, organize merchandise, and ensure the store displays are attractive and well-maintained through effective merchandising Conduct product demos to showcase features and benefits, helping customers make informed purchasing decisions Maintain excellent phone etiquette when answering inquiries or assisting customers remotely Supervise or assist in supervising team members during shifts, fostering a collaborative environment When you are not actively helping a customer, you are responsible for the following tasks: 1. Restocking and facing merchandise throughout your shift according to the store's stocking priority order: (1) beer and cold beverages, (2) cigarettes and cigars behind the counter, (3) chips and snacks, and (4) wine. You will rotate stock so older product is always placed in front of newer product. You will maintain the appearance of the coolers, gondolas, and counter displays throughout your shift. 2. Cash handling and inventory counting. 3. You will maintain cleanliness throughout the store, including the counter, restrooms, and coolers. Food contact surfaces must be cleaned and sanitized at least every four hours during use, consistent with Maryland food safety requirements. You will complete the store's daily and weekly cleaning checklists as assigned. 4. If you are the only employee present, you are expected to remain visible near the register and entrance as much as possible, particularly during evening and night hours. Tasks that require you to leave your line of sight to the register or entrance should be completed in short intervals rather than extended stretches of time. Your first 90 days at the company serve as an introductory period. This gives your supervisor time to review your performance and skillset, ensuring you and the role are a great match.
Regular weekly reviews will be conducted; if your performance is deemed unsatisfactory at any point during this time, the company reserves the right to revoke this offer and terminate employment. Qualifications Previous experience with POS systems, cash register operations, and retail sales transactions is preferred Demonstrated supervising experience or leadership skills in a retail setting is a plus Bilingual abilities are highly valued to serve diverse customer needs effectively Strong communication skills with an emphasis on customer service excellence and phone etiquette Knowledge of retail store product details, merchandising techniques, and stock management practices Ability to perform basic math accurately for retail math calculations and cash handling tasks Experience in upselling, product demos, and cashiering is desirable Familiarity with retail math concepts such as calculating discounts or totals and managing cash drawers confidently Timeliness and maintenance of professionalism at all times.
