Job Description

Gift Shop Associate General Description:
The Gift Shop Associate for the Friends of Point Betsie Lighthouse, Inc. is a support position that assists the daily functions of the Boathouse Gift Shop at Point Betsie, and educational activities at Point Betsie Lighthouse. These responsibilities include the operation of the on property gift shop and educating the public about Point Betsie Light Station, maritime history, and the ecology of the immediate area surrounding the Station. The Gift Shop Associate takes direction from and reports to the Gift Shop Manager and the Board of Directors of the Friends of Point Betsie Lighthouse.
Hours:
This is a part time seasonal position (14-16 hours/week) with a possible 3rd day as needed. (May through October). Must be available some weekends.
Specific Duties:
Responsible for assisting the daily activities at the Boathouse Gift Shop at Point Betsie when open to the public. This includes, but is not limited to: Operating cash register and handling cash Maintaining accurate records of conducted sales Providing accurate information on inventory of items Serving as a knowledge resource of Point Betsie Lighthouse Assisting with educational programming Assisting with display set up Assisting with public events Assignments as given by the
Gift Shop Manager or Board of Directors Requirements:
The Gift Shop Associate must have the ability to perform light physical labor--such as indoor sweeping or vacuuming, carrying trash and recyclables, and lift modest weight (up to 40 lbs.) of Gift Shop merchandise. Successful employees must have strong organizational and interpersonal skills. They must like working with and meeting people and have a positive attitude. Prior retail experience is not necessary.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in customer service and/or retail. Good customer service skills.
Compensation:
$17/hour
