Job Summary The Manufacturing Crew Members position supports daily manufacturing and production operations through a variety of manual labor, material handling, and equipment-assist duties. This entry-level role provides training and exposure to multiple production support functions in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). Employees in this classification are expected to meet clearly defined performance accountabilities in safety, productivity, quality, teamwork, and compliance. Role Expectations

Essential Duties & Responsibilities The statement below reflects the general details considered necessary to describe the principal functions of the job identified. - Perform general labor tasks including bundling, packaging, material handling, loading/unloading, and supporting production lines (Mill, Recut, Shipping & Receiving).
- Assist with cutoff machines, end finishing, deburring, de-dimplers, and other equipment under supervision.
- Use basic tools such as tape measures, micrometers, banders, and gauges to verify product specifications.
- Transport materials using forklifts, pallet jacks, or other equipment as certified and assigned.
- Support staging, shipping, and receiving activities including load verification and tarping.
- Maintain safe, clean, and organized work areas (5S).
- Follow all safety, quality, and operational procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned within the General Labor classification.
- Work as assigned. Qualifications
- Ability to perform physical labor (lifting, bending, standing, walking for extended periods).
- Lifting to 50 lbs. without assistance and over 50 lbs. with assistance
- Strong commitment to safety, quality, and attention to detail.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Manufacturing experience preferred but not required.
- Must be able to obtain forklift and crane certification.
Work Environment & Physical Demands This role requires physical activities typical of steel mill and heavy manufacturing environments. Employees must be able to stand for extended periods, stoop, bend, reach, and lift materials repetitively. The position also involves climbing stairs and safely entering and exiting a forklift. Tasks require consistent use of visual and auditory abilities to ensure accuracy and safety. The work environment includes exposure to varying temperatures, moving machinery, elevated noise levels, and industrial equipment. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required and provided. Employees work around production lines, and mobile equipment where situational awareness and strict adherence to safety protocols are essential. Due to the nature of steel mill operations, some essential physical requirements cannot be modified; however, reasonable accommodations will be evaluated in accordance with applicable laws. Training & Wage Progression Employees in the General Labor/Manufacturing Crew Member classification will participate in a structured certification program. Training is provided during scheduled working hours at no loss of pay. Wage increases are added to the base wage upon successful completion of each module. Advancement is based on demonstrated proficiency through practical tests, supervisor observation, and certification. Material Handling / Blow Out Safely operate pallet jacks and material handling equipment Perform blow-out and cleaning of tubing Move materials efficiently without damage; maintain organized staging areas (5S) Apply customer packaging requirements Completes daily forklift inspection sheets. Mill Cut Off Operations Assist with setup/changeovers and operation of cutoff equipment under supervision Accurately measure and verify cut lengths using gauges/micrometers Identify and report basic quality issues (length, burrs, de-dimpling) Apply customer packaging requirements Raw Material / MRO Receiving Assist with unloading and inspection of incoming raw materials Accurately complete receiving documentation Properly label and store materials according to procedures Completes daily forklift inspection sheets. Shipping Reads and receives written instructions for required loads. Support load configuration & performs last visual audit of product Verify loads against shipping documents Assist with spotting trailers. Loads and unloads required material. Enters accurate shipment information into the system, performs material handling and repackaging as needed, maintains a clean and organized work area, and completes tubing preparation tasks such as end conditioning, hand de-dimpling, and debris removal, along with inventory support and other duties as assigned. Utilizes handheld scanning devices to ensure load accuracy and maintain inventory integrity throughout the shipping process. Completes daily forklift inspection sheets. Mill Feeder Safely feed correct coils and raw material into mill entry Monitor for proper alignment and report jams/issues Maintain clean entry area and follow coil changeover procedures Secondary Cutting / Finishing Assist with single/double-head end finishing and deburring Perform chamfering and brush deburring to specification Conduct visual and gauge-based quality checks on finished ends Successfully complete changeovers and length changes in a timely manner, per customer requirements. General Labor Training Program Complete all safety, quality, and foundational skill modules Demonstrate consistent adherence to standard work and 5S Show progressive improvement in productivity and independence
