This is a hands-on position that requires excellent customer service, good judgment, flexibility, and the ability to perform physically demanding work. Although much of the position is based in the donation intake area, the employee may assist with furniture moving, food deliveries, resale store operations, facility upkeep, volunteer supervision, and other operational needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Donation Receiving and Processing Greet donors and provide courteous, helpful customer service. Assist donors with unloading donated goods from their vehicles. Receive, inspect, and pre-sort donated items in the intake area. Determine whether donated items are appropriate for resale, mission use, recycling, or disposal according to ACTS procedures. Distribute donated goods to the appropriate location, including: Resale-quality clothing, home goods, furniture, and other merchandise to the appropriate sorting or sales area. Mission-quality goods to designated bins or program areas. Recyclable clothing, shoes, handbags, and other textiles to the recycling area. Donated food to the food pantry or designated storage area. Maintain an orderly, safe, and efficient donation intake area. Follow ACTS procedures for providing donation receipts. Assist with food deliveries and other large deliveries as needed. Donation Pickups and Furniture Moving Respond to and follow up on requests for donation pickups. Communicate with donors to determine whether items meet ACTS donation guidelines. Assist with loading, transporting, and unloading furniture, appliances, and other large or heavy donated items. Help protect donated property, ACTS equipment, and donor property during pickups and deliveries. Follow all safety procedures when lifting, moving, loading, and unloading items. Volunteer and Community Service Worker Support Provide clear work assignments to volunteers based on their abilities and the needs of ACTS, as instructed by your supervisor Facility Cleaning and Housekeeping Assist with or assign daily housekeeping duties, as needed. Help keep exits, walkways, work areas, and loading areas free of hazards. Report facility maintenance, pest, safety, or equipment concerns to a supervisor. Resale Store and Program Support Assist Resale Store employees with daily operations as needed. Provide coverage during employee breaks, absences, and emergencies when directed. Operate the cash register and follow all cash-handling procedures, as needed Understand and properly process ACTS clothing and merchandise vouchers. Assist customers and clients in a courteous and respectful manner. Help move, arrange, price, stock, or remove merchandise as directed. Assist other ACTS departments with deliveries, furniture moving, setup, cleanup, or operational projects as needed. Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission and operations of ACTS. Required Skills and Qualifications Strong customer service and interpersonal skills. Ability to interact respectfully with donors, customers, clients, volunteers, Community Service Workers, and coworkers. Ability to follow instructions and work independently with limited supervision. Good organizational and time-management skills. Ability to make reasonable decisions when sorting and evaluating donated goods. Dependability, punctuality, and a willingness to assist wherever needed. Ability to operate a cash register or willingness to learn. Ability to understand and follow ACTS donation, voucher, safety, and customer-service procedures. Basic telephone and communication skills. Prior experience in retail, warehousing, donation processing, maintenance, moving, or customer service is helpful but not required. A valid driver's license and acceptable driving record may be required if operating an ACTS vehicle. The position regularly requires:
Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, loading, and unloading furniture, boxes, bags, and other donated goods. Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, crouching, and climbing. Working indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures. Working around dust, dirt, insects, odors, used merchandise, and other conditions commonly associated with donation intake, storage, and resale operations. Safely using hand trucks, carts, dollies, and other moving equipment. Remaining physically active for extended periods during a shift.
