Position Summary Under direct supervision of the Executive Director of Bookstore, Food Services, and Print Services and/or Food Services Manager, this position provides customers with prompt and warm service, quality beverages and products, and maintains a clean and comfortable food service environment. This position is responsible for opening or closing the Titan Café, helps with covering shifts, inventory management, ordering, loss prevention, and assists in troubleshooting equipment. Regularly prepares a variety of espresso and non-espresso beverages using equipment such as coffee grinders, brewers, espresso machines, blenders, etc. Follows standard or customized recipes for customers, can quickly adapt recipe changes such as temperature, quantity of ingredients or substituted ingredients. Serve as cashier; operate a point of sale cash register terminal, receive and dispense various forms of tender including cash, checks, credit cards, accounts, and gift cards. Provides high-quality customer service and professionalism to both internal and external guests. Communicates information to the Executive Director of Bookstore, Food Services, and Print Services and/or Food Services Manager to ensure that all guest needs are met in a timely manner. Responsible for assigning tasks to part time, temporary staff, student workers and/or others to ensure timely and thorough completion of various task lists, including daily, weekly, monthly and more. Functions as trainer of staff in all Café matters, including but not limited to espresso basics and POS system; provides POS cross training to Bookstore staff when applicable. Regularly checks work of Titan Café staff and provides appropriate feedback. Ensures excellent customer service is given to every customer, resolves complaints when they arise. If necessary, escalates complaints to Food Service Manager or Executive Director. Assists as needed in cleaning shelves, fixtures, and furnishings; properly cleans and sanitizes food preparation area and equipment; including sweeping and mopping per shift; maintains retail stock in attractive and orderly appearance. Regularly assesses inventory levels of merchandise, assist with ordering of supplies and sundries, completes periodic inventory counts, and participates in annual inventory count; advises supervisor as to changes in inventory levels. Brings in new ideas and/or participates in brainstorming sessions for drinks, food, equipment and/or vendors/services. Prepare food, arranges condiments, and keeps food counter clean and orderly. Assists with cost control/loss prevention by ensuring baristas are using equipment/supplies appropriately. Oversees quality and stocks retail goods and supplies which requires lifting up to 50 pounds. Coordinate displays, special sales and new merchandise. Follows all verbal and written operational policies and procedures as directed by the Executive Director of Bookstore, Food Services, and Print Services and/or Food Services Manager. Must maintain state health standards and have a current Food Handlers Permit. Open/close cafe as needed. Perform other duties as assigned. Ability to provide empathetic and timely service to students, faculty, staff, and community members in a higher education setting. Ability to communicate and relate well with diverse populations, students, faculty, staff and the general public in a friendly, courteous, respectful and professional manner with an appreciation of diversity and the benefits of a commitment to cultural awareness and sensitivity in the workplace. Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED certificate. Excellent customer service.
Preferred Qualifications:
1 year of Barista or food counter experience. Experience overseeing people in any setting (paid or volunteer).
