Full-time Job Summary:
The Thrift Store Assistant Manager plays a crucial role in supporting the operations and management of a thrift store. They assist the store manager in overseeing day-to-day activities, ensuring excellent customer service, and achieving sales targets. The assistant manager helps maintain a positive work environment, manages volunteer schedules, assists with donation pick up scheduling, and contributes to overall success of the thrift store.Essential Functions:
Operations Management:
- Assist the store manage in planning and implementing operational strategies and procedures.
- Oversee store opening and closing procedures, ensuring proper cash handling and security measures.
- Monitor inventory levels, conduct regular stock checks, and coordinate with the store manager for reordering.
- Orient volunteers to day to day activities and provide oversight throughout volunteer shifts.
- Maintain visual merchandising standards to enhance the store's appeal and maximize sales.
Customer Service:
- Provide exceptional customer service by assisting customers with inquiries, resolving issues, and ensuring a positive shopping experience.
- Handle customer complaints or escalations in a professional and timely manner.
- Foster a customer-centric culture among staff members.
Staff Management:
- Provide guidance, support, and feedback to the store team to promote a motivated and productive work environment.
- Assist the store manager with scheduling and assigning tasks to staff members, ensuring adequate coverage during operation hours.
- Assist store manager and address any performance or disciplinary issues promptly.
- Handle customer inquiries, complaints, and feedback in a professional and timely manner, striving to exceed their expectations.
- Work closely with staff to insure that quality and productivity requirements are maintained and communicated to each associate. Supervise and control indirect time.
- Work closely with store manager to develop long
- and short-term planning and day-to-day operations.
- Assist with managing staff in order to attract, retain and motivate the employees while providing a safe environment; hire, train, develop, empower, coach and counsel, conduct performance and resolve problems, provide open communication and discipline.
- Train, and manage a team of volunteers
- Work with colleagues to deliver excellent service.
- Ensure all paperwork in control areas is filed properly and that the post is functional and clean.
Sales and Financial Management:
- Work with the store manager to achieve sales targets and meet financial objectives.
- Assist with pricing and discounts strategies to optimize sales and inventory turnover.
- Ensure accurate cash handling procedures and proper documentation of transactions.
Donation Management:
- Coordinate and oversee the sorting, pricing and processing of donated items.
- Ensure proper storage, organization, and display of donated merchandise.
- Collaborate with staff to promote donation drivers and community partnership.
Safety Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulation, including proper handling and disposal of hazardous or unsuitable items.
- Maintain a clean and organized store environment, including storage areas, restrooms, and common areas.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and address any potential hazards promptly.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; some college preferred.
- Valid driver license and a clean driving record.
- Previous experience in retail, thrift store, or elated customer service roles.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Knowledge of thrift store operation, merchandising techniques, and customer service best practices.
- Familiarity with inventory management systems and cash handling procedures.
- Ability to analyze sales data, identify trends, and implement strategies for improvement.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.
- Basic computes skis for inventory management and communication.
- Flexible to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays if required.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Some of college course work and two years' experience in a position that closely aligns with the duties and responsibilities outlined in this job description.Other:
- Reliable transportation to visit job sites.
- Current CA Driver's License
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent such as discounts, interest and to draw and interpret bar graphs.Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.Physical Demands:
