ABOUT CHEROKEE FREIGHT LINES
Cherokee Freight Lines supports transportation and fleet operations through its Stockton and Madera terminals. This position is based in Madera and provides daily maintenance-shop oversight in coordination with the Fleet Service Manager. The Madera Terminal Supervisor continues to oversee terminal and wash-rack operations, allowing the Shop Supervisor to focus on shop workflow, technician support, repairs, and equipment readiness.
POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Shop Supervisor to lead the day-to-day operations of a diesel fleet repair shop supporting tractor-trailers, trucks, and trailers. The Shop Supervisor will direct technicians, coordinate repairs and preventive maintenance, monitor work orders, maintain shop productivity, and ensure equipment is repaired safely, correctly, and on time. The ideal candidate is a hands-on diesel technician and experienced leader with knowledge of heavy-duty trucks, diesel engines, electrical and electronic diagnostics, air systems, brakes, HVAC, aftertreatment systems, and trailer repair.
KEY JOB DUTIES
  • Provide daily on-site direction and oversight for the Madera shop and maintenance team.
  • Assign and prioritize repairs and preventive maintenance based on safety, equipment needs, and technician availability.
  • Monitor repair progress, open work, equipment status, and delays.
  • Coordinate with the Fleet Service Manager, Madera Terminal Supervisor, dispatch, drivers, parts personnel, and vendors.
  • Ensure a work order is opened for every repair and that labor, parts, notes, and repair details are complete and accurate.
  • Review completed work and confirm equipment is safe before returning it to service.
  • Provide technical assistance and perform hands-on diagnosis or repair work when needed.
  • Coach technicians, monitor daily performance and attendance, and escalate significant concerns to management.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop and enforce company procedures and required PPE.
  • Coordinate road service, outside repairs, and parts needs when work cannot be completed promptly in-house.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to work in a truck repair shop environment. Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work around heavy-duty vehicles and equipment. Ability to occasionally lift and carry tools, parts, and equipment. Ability to work in varying temperatures and conditions. Ability to safely work around diesel-powered equipment, shop machinery, and vehicle systems.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum 5 years of heavy-duty diesel repair experience.
  • Previous experience leading or supervising diesel technicians preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Class 7 and Class 8 tractor-trailer equipment.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience with diesel engines, electrical systems, wiring harnesses, air brakes, ABS, HVAC, suspension, and aftertreatment systems.
  • Ability to read wiring diagrams and technical service information.
  • Experience performing and supervising preventive maintenance inspections.
  • Ability to use electronic diagnostic tools and manufacturer diagnostic software.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to learn fleet maintenance/work-order software.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technicians, drivers, management, parts personnel, and vendors.

Pay:
$80,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
